look, felton's contract does not suggest that he's a starter. more importantly, his play in portland last year does not suggest that he's a starter in this league anymore. i highly doubt that we brought him in to be the "win now" starting pg. i can definitely see him coming off the bench at the 1 and/or 2 spot.

And if we did, let the riots begin. If nothing else, I just couldn't see them letting Lin go for the PR murder that would follow. Granted, this is the same owner who let Zeke stay around forever (maybe still? This has Zeke written all over it).

For what it's worth, I think the Knicks are doing the most prudent thing to do which is not match. Lin is still a big question mark for that amount of money. But let's not kid ourselves... if they had come out at the start and offered Lin a contract, they won't look as bad and might have had a chance to sign Lin. Right now, they look like idiots for putting it out there that they will match any offers and "cannot see any situation where they won't match" to now basically waving the white flag and saying, sorry he costs too much.

Lin played well under Woodson. He took over the 4th quarter of the Philly game, and that was a huge game for us. We looked GOOD with Stat, Melo, Lin, Chandler all together in that small sample size under Woody. I would've expected more of the same if we kept the core together.

Thanks, I really feel we will be passing up a huge opportunity if we let Lin go. If he pans out, it will be the biggest steal we could've ever hoped for. If he doesn't, find a way to salvage it out. All the contracts are up in 3 years any way so it's not like it'll be a long term killer for out ability to field a good team...

Kidd will start at the 2. Lin at PG. JR will back up Melo and Kidd. Felton will back up Lin and Kidd. Pablo will get spot minutes. The Dallas Mavericks had great guard depth when they won the title. Even with Beuboix (sp?) injured, they still had Terry and Barea off the bench and Kidd played more minutes as the starter then but Stevenson played a small role as the starting SG (minutes-wise).

Also, consider this: I think it's clear Woodson is not Lin's biggest fan; that was true last year when he got the job and initially wouldn't declare Lin the starter over Davis. Is it possible he came out and said the Knicks were going to "absolutely" match the offer (the first one), knowing that him saying that would lead the Rockets to offer more and thus giving the team an excuse [i]not[/i] to match ?

The Knicks were bitter because they told Lin the club would match the original offer and Lin apparently shared the information with the Rockets, who decided to raise it. The free agency started off with acrimony on July 1` when the Knicks decided to let Lin set his market value instead of making him an offer.
