I might be in the minority but I like bringing Felton back. I hope they bring Lin back as well, but I think Felton could work well here. He played well with Amare and now he has Melo on the wing. He has his flaws, but I think 3 million a year for him is a good price. I think the trade itself is a good one because you're getting 2 rotational players in Felton and Kurt Thomas, who can now be the backup PF, for 2 guys who might not have even been back. I still hope they bring back Lin, but I'm glad Felton's back.

Felton is strong enough to guard the bigger 2 guards and likes to score as much as he does set teammates up. The roster as constructed desperately needs another guy who can play minutes at the 2. There are no prototype SGs available in our price range.
I still see Felton coming in as a 2 guard and backup 1.
The backcourt would NOT be crowded with Lin and Felton until Shump comes back and that's a question mark.

I never thought I would see the day where the Knicks lose someone cause of money and the Nets are the ones with the open wallet. This just cannot be happening.

Wouldn't it be something if Dwight Howard now agrees to accepts a trade/extend with Houston because he wants to be part of Linsanity II?

According to some posters on this board Jason Kidd only came to the Knicks to be a part of Linsanity. So your theory might have some substance.

I know Lin's negotiations have pissed off the Knicks and that it would be expensive to keep him, but I think they owe it to the fans to bring Lin back and see what he can do.

Not out of question. Increased market opportunities in China.

Matching Lin wouldn't be the end of the world capwise. If he really became a max worthy player in two years, that means we would be a championship team. If he bombed, you could waive him in year three spreading his salary hit to three years.

The team's responsibility is to put the best product on the floor. I don't really care if Lin is gone from a fan perspective but I find it extremely hard to accept that Felton is a better option. From a pure basketball perspective, Lin is already better than Felton. Not matching Lin makes zero sense in my mind.
Having said that, I always felt that Kidd would be the starting shooting guard so this move by no means eliminates bringing Lin back in my mind. A rotation of Lin, Kidd and Felton with JR smith is not too shabby in the backcourt.

Well Kidd better be telling Dolan where it's at right now if that is why he really came here.

guardplay320 wrote:Jeffires on ESPN Radio now and he talks of Lin to Houston as if it is basically a done deal. He does not expect the Knicks to match. From what I could get from what he was saying, if they let Lin walk it is is because he doesn't fit into Woodson's system. Woodson wants to run iso's primarily with Melo and Lin doesn't fit into that. He definitely seemed to put it on Woodson and not Melo.
If this is true, I think it is no coincidence that Woodson proclaimed Lin our starting point guard before the bigger offer came out. It was leaked, from the mouth of Woodson, on purpose IMO assuming this all goes down. They knew Houston would be forced to give Lin a better offer and they could use the whole luxury tax excuse to protect Woodson. It might be even possible that they told Lin they weren't going to match and had him go to Houston to ask for more money. More conspiracy theory, but pieces are started to come together now with this. Jeffries knows the Knicks locker room and him saying Lin isn't thought to meet Woodson's system speaks volumes.
This sounds more in line with Woodson's history. This is the same coach who at Atlanta preferred veteran PG who couldn't do anything but shooting 3s and refused to play young Teague and based his offense around ISO Joe Johnson.
This is like exactly what it's happening here in NY.

Well, after this whole fiasco it's clear that a lot of you guys on this site need to stop acting like know it alls and experts when you really know no more than the next fan. Not too long ago it was blasphemy on this site to suggest that the knicks wouldn't match lin and everybody who suggested the possibility was laughed at and ostracized. You guys don't know s**t.

I don't trust Dolan to make basketball decisions. he seems to make emotional ones. he doesnt seem opposed to spending money. I could see him thinking along the lines of this being a slight against him and perhaps he doesn't get over that. we'll see.

Re: *Felton traded to the Knicks. Knicks not matching Lin?
I liked Felton from day one when he came to the Knicks. I loved the way he tugged the Knicks logo on the front of his jersey when he made a good play. He wants to be here and that's all I need to know.
Is he a great pg ? ....no
Does he chuck too much ? .... yeah
Is he prone to boneheaded plays ? ..... yeah
But one thing Felton is ..... and that's a serviceable pg, he provides depth, experience and he wants to be here. There's no way the Knicks are not gonna match Lin. That Jared Jeffries comment has me confused, but I still don't believe the Knicks let Lin walk.
Last year we went into the playoffs with Bibby as our pg and we couldn't move the ball. Now we got Kidd, hopefully Lin, Felton and the euro guy. Depth, depth and more depth at the most important position on the court. I'm good with this Felton pick up.

Grant Hill, NBA's second oldest player behind Kurt Thomas, is considering Knicks, Lakers & Heat. Hill's wife, the singer Tamia, prefers NY
