If they felt disrespected that Lin went back to Houston to get an even bigger offer (I want to hear it from Jeremy if he actually did this), they should sign him and trade him later for expirings and picks. If he is a huge draw for asian fans, then this should be super easy to do, even with the poison pill in the 3rd year. At least then he'll be an asset to us eventually even if he doesn't pan out.

GratefulDead is right. MSG stock has been trending upwards ever since it started sharing publicly. I bought it at 19.60 in the summer of 2010 and sold it in the upper 20's way before Linsanity happened.

The first couple of years Lin's contract is very fair. The issue is not money. Supposedly Dolan feels butthurt and betrayed, which is plausible. I thought by this point Dolan would understand that the NBA is a rough business and NBA negotiations are not for the faint of heart, but apparently it was wishful thinking on my part...

Anyone think this goes back to the playoffs when he was 85% and didn't play. At the time, I thought it was a team decision, but maybe not? He.did distnace himself from the team publicly. Maybe that was because he was a FA, but it was sort of obvious that he wasn't around.

C'mon KG, that ain't even fair. Let's play devil's advocate. Lin could have played game 3 & 4. He was claiming to be 85%. Why didn't he give it go then?

Stunning Knicks age progression over last three seasons: In 2010-11 they were the 5th youngest team in franchise history with an average age of 24.6, which was also 7th youngest in NBA. Last season the team's average age was 26.5, with only three players over the age of 30 (not counting Dan Gadzuric, who appeared in one game). Right now, with 11 players following Felton/Thomas move and anticipating Prigioni signing, the team's average age? 31.4. Six of the 11 players will be 30 or older when the season opens.

Well everything else we tried hasn't worked. Might as well go the old guy route...

Once the 3 year run is over, I guess we really will blow up the team and then become one of the NBA's youngest.

That is the truth though. I honestly almost want Lin to leave just so you can all see MSG stock doesn't drop at all.

Uh are u serious?

Anybody know how swallowing Lin's new contract will impact Houston's ability to go after D12?

Prolly can't help too much. Not re-signing Lin might be as much a 'f*ck you' to Morey as to Lin.

I wrote a post entitled "From a Lin fans perspective, I'm happy he's leaving NYC"

I want to apologize to you guys on the forum for writing that, I really wasn't thinking about what I was doing. It's too soon, the wound still too fresh

Alot of you guys are Knicks fans and Lin fans as well and you're still pretty devastated by the news, (although nothing has been finalized) I can see why even the subject title is gonna piss a ton of you guys off. It's like your grandma just died and I wrote a post entitled "why I'm happy your grandma just died". I was just trying to give some insight from a Lin fans perspective on all this.

If Lin does leave NYC I will miss all the hoopla, the fans and media circus of NYC, I gotta admit it was very entertaining.

They also could be floating this idea of not matching to tie up the Houston front office for a few days to get back at them.

Yikes. Bad bad post. Would you rather have Raymond Felton running point or JR Smith?

It's a business. That particular blade cuts both ways.

I think Lin will be in a Rox uni on opening day. See ya, kid. Have a nice career.

You're right, it is a basketball business but Dolan isn't treating it that way. He's making it personal.

Financially and basketball wise it makes tons more sense to match him.

Dolan's fragile little ego got hurt and now he's ignoring the business aspect and throwing away a gift that fell right into our lap.

Why are you not looking at it from both sides of the fence?

It actually could make sense as to why Dolan doesn't want to keep him based on what you said. Lin would be getting 15 M's in his final year yet he hasn't proven whatsoever that he deserves a contract anywhere near that magnitude. Another thing we're in win now mode, it's going to take a couple of years for Jeremy to improve on all the skills he needs to improve on. Declining his offer would let him do that better in an environment where players are around the same age as him & they're not focused on contending for a while now.

You can call it a fragile ego but if what Berman said is right about Lin & you or anybody else was in Dolan's seat & wanted to re-sign without the thought of trading him anytime during his contract then y'all are puss*es. Dolan puts loyalty all the way up there & I respect him greatly for that because I do the same thing. He doesn't want to just hand over the keys to a kid who supposedly tried to play the Knicks.

Man, if the reports are true, then what Lin did was pretty scummy.

A young player in the league shouldn't be going about that way, its not really a great reputation to have going forward.

I hate Dolan, but the man has virtue I can't even blame him for not giving Lin that money.

And seeing how that's the reason as to why we've been reluctant to sign him then my views on it have changed. Now I'm starting to wonder if we even re-sign now. I was very dismissive of the ideas of us declining his offer sheet yesterday because it made too much sense to bring him back but seeing these posts......

One of things you learn in covering #Knicks is you don't cross owner James Dolan. He is a very loyal guy but when disloyalty is shown, you are done with him. That may very well be case here with Jeremy Lin. It wasn't just the money, which was obscene in third year. As we have reported last couple of days, the renegotiation of an offer sheet that was agreed upon and leaked to press - after Woodson publicly said they'd match and he'd be starter - was a kick in gut to organization.

Jay10 wrote:Jeremy got 2 offer sheets from the rockets and only presented one to the knicks.

...makes me question things a bit now.

If you really think Lin's unloyal to the Knicks, think about it for 1 second, where's the Knicks loyalty towards Lin when they made the full effort to pursue Nash and made zero initial offer to Lin? Even Chicago put an initial offer 24m/4 years to Asik on the table before he found a bigger offer with Houston but we made zero effort to do that and were busy chasing another PG to replace Lin. Add the rumor about using Lin as a package for CP3 (though pure rumor). Loyalty can go both ways and really rarely exist in a business sports world.

I really don't see how any of you can be mad at Dolan? Dolan was going to match an offer that was going to put him far into the luxury tax and then Lin went and had the offer upped. Do you really want a player on our team who knowingly accepted an offer that he knew would create a HUGE problem for the team his rights are owned by? I'm sorry that you all want Lin but he obviously doesn't want you.

Lin will never be as popular in Houston as he was in NY never. How inept is the Rockets organazation. They cut Lin because they liked Dragic,Lowry and Flynn better. Then less then a year later all those guys are gone and they are giving the guy they cut 15 million dollars in a season.

wow

With Lin - The FO has done a fantastic job surrounding the team with Vets who still have enough left in the tank.

Without Lin - All we have are old ass scrubs and Fatties.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.
