Thanks! RT @rodboone: Melo on Lin: "It's not up to me. It's up to the organization to say that they want to match that ridiculous contract."

Maybe cooler heads will prevail.

Melo called it a ridiculous contract? No more ridiculous than Melo's.

thats not the real quote from melo, he said this

"Houston threw a wrench in there with that third year, from what I'm seeing,'' Anthony said. "We'll see what happens. I would love to have him back, but I'm not the financial guy in the front office, so we'll see what happens.''

All I will say is Knicks fans aren't that dumb & by the time he comes back as a Rocket everybody will have put two & two together.

-Sitting out in the playoffs when there was a chance we could've come back
-Previously treating him like a written prophecy
-Not playing on the USA select team
-Not playing in the Summer League
-Going for a second offer with the Rockets & only showing the Knicks the first one

I think you can see where it's going

Real Knick fans will give him hell. If he does go to the Rockets, I'd love to be at that game to give heckle him.

But their will be so many Lin fans there that i don't see the crowd being so hostile to him. Lin fans will outweigh the real Knick fans at that game.

Wow. What a quote from Melo.

Could it be that the players are mad that he went and renegotiated another contract putting the Knicks in a tougher position long term?

Melo was insulted that we were haggling over the assets we were giving up to Denver. And we ended up giving up the farm for him, as well as a monstrosity of a contract.

So this was one of those sarcastic paraphrases?

I copied that quote from Howard Beck's Twitter by the way. No idea if it's real or not just passed it on. It's being discussed to death on Twitter right now.

I think that idiot of a writer is paraphrasing Melo and putting in his own spin.

Hope so anyway.

WTF????

I can't take this anymore. Is that a quote from Melo or not? Are these reporters so reckless that they are putting words into people's mouths? Isn't that illegal???

Howard Beck ‏@HowardBeckNYT
NBPA fought hard during the lockout to win more rights for restricted free agents like Lin. Then fought to get his early-Bird rights.

Melo would be the biggest hypocrite on the planet to judge anybody elses motives for wanting a larger contract.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

sounds like fake quote spread on twitter...Melo's not intelligent enough to discern what a ridiculous contract is

My only concern is the whole cap space situation we would face if we sign him. Don't know the figures, but 3 years from now we will be in cap space hell (not sure if I'm correct, please correct me if I'm wrong).

Lin's contract doesn't really affect the cap situation. It's all about the luxury tax.

So we're still allowed to go over the cap, we would just have to pay whatever amount we go over in the luxury tax right?

More Melo on Lin: "I'd love to see him back, but I think he has to do what's best for him right now." #Knicks

I think these are all actual quotes happening right now.

My personal opinion is you just don't let a young, immensely popular player like this just walk without any compensation. This kid just fell out of the sky, a gift from the basketball gods. If you match, he can't be traded until Dec. 15. Can't deal him to Houston until next summer. But these will be a market for him regardless. Just my opinion, but letting him walk for nothing is hard for me to understand.

Edit: This is how I feel as well.

This is why I say it makes no b'ball or business sense not to match him. It's asinine. It's not rational.

Seeing how people freak out at not matching, can you imagine how they'd freak out if they traded him?
