So it's exploratory or did they find something wrong?

Well, I just hope he can play next season and gets back to pitching like he did 2011. It'll be nice to have another relief pitcher that we can rely on.

So it took them three months to decide he needs surgery? And it puts him at risk of missing part of next year? Surely this could have been handled better.

AA should have bought the better glue.

There was talk going around that they couldn't pinpoint where the pain was coming from, or at least the source of it. Sometimes he would say the was pain in the front of his shoulder and sometimes the back.

Anyways, Torn labrums are not good news, Tommy John surgery is actually more succesful than reparing a torn labrum> At least we're not spending much on his contract and we only gave up 1 minor league pitcher.

Old article from 2004, but very good, talking about labrum tears and tommy john

Wasn't the "better glue" supposed to be Heath Bell?

 It was too long ago for me to remember the exact context of the glue comment. My uncle is from Miami and is a big Marlins fan. Needless to say he's been massively disappointed by Taco Bell. He is fat and awful, much like Blowdero. My favorite Bell moment was when he came in with a 6-2 lead in the 9th then gave up 5 runs to lose. It wasn't even a blown save because it wasn't a save situation!

I'm trying to decide whether or not to undergo season ending surgery myself...

Wow, Alex got played with this trade. Kinda weird that Chicago was so quick to get rid of Santos for just a minor leaguer (who actually might be a pretty good prospect). Zaun made a good point today when he said Chicago's weakness was a closer yet they were more than happy to ship out Santos. They must have known something was up with his shoulder last year. Alex needed to do his homework and sometimes when a trade seems to good to be true, there's usually a reason for it. Good learning experience for him because it seems like a pretty big coincidence that after a couple of games Santos is done without him having some issues late last season.

Thank god Casey Jansen has done a great job in the closer role. AA needs to get us some starting pitching so we can move some of our starting pitchers to the bull pen.

Is that why Chicago gave him a long-term contract?

Labrum surgery, although is still a potential career ender, has had it's success stories, Casey Jansen is a case in point, and the fact that the Jays knew Chris Carpenter needed the surgery so they let him go is also proof that back then management figured he was done, only for him to recover and do what he did in St. Louis.

I forgot Santos was on this team. Labrum surgeries are different for everybody but especially risky for pitchers. Hockey players typically need well over a season to recover properly.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

You know who I've forgotten about? McGowan. I caught flak for saying he's my least favourite Jay and now he might as well be off the team. The hell with these injury-prone players. I said it at the time: I'm all for giving him a chance and some security; I just wish it were in that order.
