You are correct. He doesn't lose anything playing in Houston. He gets paid and plays the game he loves. Over the summer his HS coach (notice how this is a real person - talks to Lin on the regular, not just an unnamed source) was recently interviewed and said Lin turned down quite a few endorsement offers to focus on training because the endorsements took up too much time.
People act like he'll be lost without the ny market, he won't. He's turning down offers to focus on bball; he's not trying to be the next blake commercial king griffin.
Well if we want to get all philosophical of course... Every player in the NBA has made it and has nothing to complain about, getting millions to play the game they love etc etc..
But Lin wouldn't have become the "sensation" he was during that 25 game span playing in Houston as he did in NY. And I believe that. The story, the coverage, where the team was, the hype expectations etc etc.... Maybe it's a little story if it happens in Houston, but I don't think people care as much about the kid leading the Rockets to a 7th seed out in Texas.... And for a kid that has made his money purely out of that -- it would be obtuse to say the market doesn't matter.
If he's the "truth" and becomes some sort of star - sure his play will show no matter where he's at (though even then, NY would make him even bigger) ... But if he turns out to be just OK and comes down to earth, he'll fade a lot faster out there than he would being just OK in NY - because maybe that's all the Knicks need him to be... And he continue with his allure...
The fact that people mention him in the same sentence as Melo, "Melo v Lin" stuff helps him.. because he's being mentioned with one of the big money talents in the league... What's his problem going to be in Houston.. Lin v Dragic? Not the same.
