Felton traded to Knicks; Not matching Lin? (part 2)

The Heat didn't LOSE several contributors to off-set what they added. We are losing Lin, Fields, Jeffries, Harrellson, and four second-round picks. And if second-round picks are utterly valueless why do we keep having to include them to get trades done?

Bringing Kidd to back up Lin has a whole different flavor than bringing him in to backup Felton.

Lin does not make or break this team. STAT and Melo does.

I will be highly upset if we dont sign lin..but u have to think we will just for the fact that the Nets are moving to Brooklynn...and we are going to need fan support and Lin brings that....Every body needs to realize we needed a shooting guard and Felton and Kidd could play the 2.I make rather have to passers in the backcourt to make our front court as dominate as it should of been last year...Just picture to players in the back court that p/r with Amare and Tyson.I think its just what this team needs.

I do hope that the idea is to have a back court with two PG's at time. With Stat and Chandler out there, that could bring great things.

That said, if Lin isn't brought back I really start watching some Brooklyn games. I'm from there and not bringing Lin back would really be the straw (I should say log) that broke the camels back. The ineptitude of this franchise has just gotten to be too much.

How did the knicks lowball lin? They are only allowed to offer a certain amount due to his early bird rights.

Actually it was reported that all they offered was a 1-year qualifying offer and told him to go prove his worth in the open market.

I dont understand how some posters are ok with this, and still have a great outlook on next season. Crushing the East? Really? How so? What are we doing that improves our position from last year? How many games did we win against the heat in the playoffs again?

Regardless of the Lin situation, the Knicks improved.

I don't think the comparison is that clear cut. the distinction between the second comparison is minute, and you left out lin in the first comparison. dont know if that was by design.

I'm assuming Lin isn't back in this discussion. Felton and Kidd, are still miles better than what we had.


And the second part is a very big difference. Jeffires was not a good on ball defender versus big men, he couldn't protect the rim, nor was he a good rebounder. Camby is better all around.

I was talking about the right hand side of the equation in the Lin instance. He played last season. We are comparing last season to this upcoming season. Your comparison should be:
Kidd, Felton > Bibby, Baron, Douglas, Lin

and if thats the case, the margin is not that wide, if any at all.
As for the second, I think Jorts had a lot more to contribute than he was let to show, and JJeffries was only relied on to do certain things. At this point in their careers, I don't think what either Camby and Kurt can contribute will be much more than what Jeffries did or could do.

Others are literally saying they support the decision to not match Lin. That is just indefensible. Even if you care about the team's finances, it doesn't make sense to want Lin out. Financially the right move would have been letting Novak walk.

There are good reasons to think about why somebody doesn't want Lin here.

-We already have Felton & Kidd, and you could make a case that they fit much better in our goal.
-Lin needs to still develop, we're clearly a win now team. Something's gotta give.

If people wanted support for the reason on not to match Lin those are two of them

Yes that's hilarious, but bringing in Kidd/Felton/Camby are game changers.

Not game changers but CLEAR upgrades...that was the point.

They are NOT clear upgrades. My god this is silly. We lost by FAR the best player out of any of them, in Lin, along with several other players who would have contributed had they stayed. At the VERY best, the sum of these moves is a wash.

Lin was a hell of a lot better than Amar'e last year.

Great point, he really was. We can always trade Stat the last year of his contract - as opposed to Lin.

I really think that this has more to do with Woodson than it does Lin's contract. Not even offering Lin the max we could on good faith was a bit suspicious.

Yes they are contributors, and we lost by far the best player that was on the table, in Lin. Hence we did not upgrade.

The only part of the season that matters to me, were Woodson and the playoffs, and Lin only played 7 games. So for the majority, we were left with those 3. That's why I didn't include Lin.

There's a very good chance Shumpert will be a better player than Lin during the course of a 3 year contract. Neither of them deserve a ridiculous contract. Maybe in a few years, but not right now.

If we lose Shump, it'll be because other teams are willing to pay him more than us. I don't see how you can call a player's market price ridiculous.

Dude, I'm asking you if you think Shumpert is deserving of a 15 million dollar 3rd year contract? Personally I think he's not worth it, neither is Lin. Carmelo was spot on with saying it was a ridiculous contract.
