Does keeping Lin negatively affect our ability to sign players or make trades in the next three years? I'm currently of the belief that it does NOT. I think we are are pretty much set as a team for the next three years REGARDLESS of whether we match Lin or not; We are capped out regardless. If that's the case, I don't see why there is any debate over this, we would need to match Lin.

Does this push us from MLE to a MMLE? If not, then it looks like the only difference on the basketball court would be Lin or some guy off the street. If that's the choice how do you not choose Lin? At worse, if he sucks we trade him for a 2nd rounder or something. At best he helps us go for a championship. If he's something in between, he's a trade chip.

Off court stuff - if you complain about the luxury tax, you can't ignore the fact he'll bring extra attention and cash to the club; probably MUCH more than what the luxury tax would cost.

So basically can somebody explain to me basketball management wise, why we aren't bringing him back.

YAY! more sense!!!

Yeah. My question is the same. So we are getting penalized but we will be over the cap anyways. Does going from 9 mil to 15 mil make that much of a difference in cap penalties?

I'm not hating on Carmelo. He's one of my favorite Knicks. Never hated him even after this. I still hope this is a misquote.

But if Lin had made the comment about Carmelo's contract being ridiculous when Carmelo is a free agent,... you know Lin will get the wrath of Isola and Steven A Smith. Let's not be hypocrites.

Because Melo has put up better numbers for years not 25 games. Thats why the contract is ridiculous. He didnt sya we shouldnt match, that would be a whole different story

I just can't co-sign not bringing Lin back. We are making a HUGE mistake doing this. Do we really want to see fat ass Felton running the point for the next 3 years?

bklynstoops wrote:not really. seriously, if this is a win now team, you match the offer regardless of how you feel about the negotiations. he's better than what you have and what you can currently get; in fact, he's the best thing that happened to our rudderless team last year. you overpay in a win now situation, not worry about tax implications two years from now.

this has nothing to do with winning from Dolan's perspective.

I'm telling you at best Lin is a bench player, he's a good player, he has good potential but whether he's a starting PG or a stud in the making is something I doubt. Does he have skills that he uses to his advantage? Without a doubt, he's a scorer, was a 2 guard in college & played best as a slasher. Can he help us win a title? Maybe, maybe not.

At the same time he is young, it will take a couple years for him to develop his skills, passing being the one which we need the most, we don't know if he will get injured again especially the playing style that he plays in.

We have Felton who despite having a bad year that has been blowed way out of proportion & stat-padding when he was here thanks to Pringles system, is a very good halfcourt & has always been.

I believe we will still match Lin but if people have to question marks about bringing Lin back it's understandable.

Agree... Melo shouldn't have talked about anyone's contract. No player should talk to the media about other player's contracts. Almost an unwritten rule.

Why hate on Lin? Did anyone hate on Melo for going after every cent he can get? Did anyone hate Amar'e for getting that extra year that Phoenix didn't want to pony up? he wants to get paid just like everyone else in the league.

Lin does not make or break this team. STAT and Melo does.

how many times do you want to break it with those two?

c'mon, let's admit it, we're in holding pattern until we get a shot at cp3.

That's what I said in another thread. Lin does and will not change the way STAT & Melo play together. Lin needs the ball his damn self!

There's absolutely no evidence to support that. He played like an all-star as a starter. You're just pulling something out of the depths of your psyche and smearing it on board.

If the Knicks are planning to match, there's no reason to waste a single asset acquiring Felton. Any player willing to sign for the Vet minimum will do.

espn saying lin's gone like it's a fact... dumb. i think they lose a ton of credibility - maybe they never had it anyhow - when the knicks bring back lin.
I dunno.

Yes you are wrong

Did I say Felton & Kidd are better than Lin or did I say that you could make a case that they fit better on the team.

Try again.
