I'm not arguing Lin is not worth the contract. I agree with that.

BUT You don't tell the press that a co-worker's salary is ridiculous and imply that he doesn't deserve it. You just don't say that. If you don't understand this, I can't help you understand it.

Does keeping Lin negatively affect our ability to sign players or make trades in the next three years? I'm currently of the belief that it does NOT. I think we are are pretty much set as a team for the next three years REGARDLESS of whether we match Lin or not; We are capped out regardless. If that's the case, I don't see why there is any debate over this, we would need to match Lin.

Does this push us from MLE to a MMLE? If not, then it looks like the only difference on the basketball court would be Lin or some guy off the street. If that's the choice how do you not choose Lin? At worse, if he sucks we trade him for a 2nd rounder or something. At best he helps us go for a championship. If he's something in between, he's a trade chip.

Off court stuff - if you complain about the luxury tax, you can't ignore the fact he'll bring extra attention and cash to the club; probably MUCH more than what the luxury tax would cost.

So basically can somebody explain to me basketball management wise, why we aren't bringing him back.

See, you're thinking too logically. This is the Knicks, you can't deduce any action through rational and cogent thought.

My best guess:

The only reason I can think of is CAA (Lin kills Melo's marketability); Or to spite the Rockets; Or Woody/Grunwald don't think he's starter material, and don't want to deal with the headache and media pressure to play him. They may legitamately see Felton as a better option than Lin. It seems absurd but Woodson has demonstrated nothing but complete and utter incompetence as an NBA coach (iso-joe/melo abominations), and Grunwald as a GM, and the Knicks as an organization. It's probably a combination of all of the above, though.

Why hate on Lin? Did anyone hate on Melo for going after every cent he can get? Did anyone hate Amar'e for getting that extra year that Phoenix didn't want to pony up? he wants to get paid just like everyone else in the league.

Yes they did actually.

Lin makes less than half of what Carmelo makes, and guess what - Lin had a better year than Carmelo last season.

I'm praying the Knicks are just trying to troll the Rockets as "pay back".

i think we should just wait till tues and hope for the best

my last post on this:

1) it makes no sense not to match from a nonbball perspective: you got a competitor in brooklyn, a cash cow for the far east to expand your brand and get more jersey sales/tv contracts
2) you have no assets at the moment aside from shump and 2015 cap space (and lin is supposed to be in that also)...its totally cool but lin has to stay or else you have nothing to build upon post 3 yr plan
3) considering amares injury history you need additional scoring assets available
4) even if lin has issues with FO or teammates, match the offer and deal with it next year

I cant think of any reason not to match...if things dont work out this year trade him next summer, teams who lost out on stars will be eager to get him

There's absolutely no evidence to support that. He played like an all-star as a starter. You're just pulling something out of the depths of your psyche and smearing it on board.

So me watching his game in college, watching him when he played garbage minutes with the Warriors, watching him when he played in the summer league is me just saying that just to say it.

Yea ok.

this has nothing to do with winning from Dolan's perspective.

I'm telling you at best Lin is a bench player

c'mon, let's admit it, we're in holding pattern until we get a shot at cp3.

That's what I said in another thread. Lin does and will not change the way STAT & Melo play together. Lin needs the ball his damn self!

The team flourishes when Lin has the ball. Why would that be a problem ?
