as bad as things sound i can't shake the feeling that cooler heads will end up prevailing. worst case scenario for the knicks is to keep lin around for the next two years to rake in money and then ship out his expiring to a team looking to sell tickets.

as opposed to the majority of Lins career where he couldnt hit a shot? wasnt Melo the guy who carried us into the playoffs averaging 30 points a game shooting 50%> Guess people forgot about that too. We wouldnt have amde the playoffs without either guy and Melo had his worst season in awhile and was still an all star and all NBA third team so Id say hes earned his money.
Lin had hardly played prior to that. Don't be ridiculous. His career started when he got into the lineup with the Knicks.

I know this will be accepted at the justification, but it is just BS. Dolan was willing to pay the Rockets offer but not the second? The difference between the two is similar to what Novak is making in year 3. If Dolan cared so much why didn't we just offer Novak a 2-year deal at a higher price per year? Only two answers: (1) Letting Lin walk is not about money, or (2) there was terrible, GM-fireable miscommunication in the front office.

i would think that after this public outcry, they'd reconsider bringing him back just to keep the fans happy.

This whole situation is being reported in a misleading way . The new offer is only 5.4 MM more that the original. The luxury hit differential is being overstated to create buzz. I am seriously doubting that the Knicks will not match. But knowing how this organization likes to make headlines, I think there will be a concerted effort to hold off on matching till the last second. This also will serve as a lesson to both Houston and to a lesser extent Lin as they will have to sweat this one out.

Why hate on Lin? Did anyone hate on Melo for going after every cent he can get? Did anyone hate Amar'e for getting that extra year that Phoenix didn't want to pony up? he wants to get paid just like everyone else in the league.
Yes they did actually.
You know what, you're right. It's just Melo's quote was ridiculous.
I just dont' get how the board is angry at Lin for getting his money. Everyone is trying to get as much as they can. Why should he sacrifice his earnings when Melo and Amar'e didn't?
he shouldnt. I just take issue with people who think Lin is being smart but melo and STAT were being greedy/selfish.

Carmelo certainly didn't play well the first half but (i) he played more than 25 games; (ii) he was the NBA player of the month; and (iii) he played insanely well down the stretch.
The sample size was plenty for seeing that he's an outstanding player. And Carmelo having a great month doesn't change the fact that he ran us into the ground for most of the season. Lin didn't have a half-season stretch where he was basically sinking the team.

You have eyes you can read, like I said last season I think he's best as a sixth man coming off the bench, Alan Hahn reiterated the same thing I said. Guess he's delusional?
If he's at best a bench player, and you think he's best as a sixth man coming off the bench, which most good teams put a starting-caliber player there, then the team is doom.

He was cut twice before that.
This will all be moot when Lin is matched.

Of course. It's three years. You cross that bridge when you come to it. Anything can happen between now and then.

FWIW, Knicks wouldn't pay repeater since they were not over threshold this past year. Pay only AFTER the 3rd year over.

Re: Felton traded to Knicks; Not matching Lin? (part 2)
BTW, they need to add Lin because this is it. This is THEIR CORE FOR THE NEXT 3 years. It's time to stop the carousel of core players going in and out. After this season, the Knicks will probably have only one/two assets left to upgrade their roster. I don't see how next year, we are adding another big piece to the puzzle. This is it! From there, you should be working on building the support group for our core players , which we have been doing this offseason.

If Felton shows up in shape, at 28, he could very well beat out Lin for the starting job in TC, even though the much younger Lin will probably have a better overall career.
To me it's simple. Match on Lin, and let the point guard battle begin in TC. Who knows, Lin could be a huge asset on the court, and as a possible asset in a future trade.

Yes you are wrong
Did I say Felton & Kidd are better than Lin or did I say that you could make a case that they fit better on the team.
Try again.
Ok let me try again.
JKidd averaged 6pts and 5 assists shooting 35% while playing more minutes per game than Lin.
Felton Averaged 11 points and 6.5 assists while shooting 40%.
At no way shape or form either guy should be consider an upgrade.
Now explain yourself, how do those 2 guys fit better with the team.

When has Felton ever been in shape? Let's be real lol. And people call Melo fat.

Basically the people saying Lin isn't important are just saying "I chose to ignore the actual results on the court and repeat over and over that it wasn't enough sample size."
Carmelo ran us into the ground for most of the year. Lin saved the season. Heads of out asses please?

the whole tax issue is in his 3rd year, cross that bridge when you get there
match the offer, and if the tax is too much for you, trade him for something next year
being scared of tax right now makes no sense considering the deals given out to camby kidd novak without considering what lins # would be

For those of you following the Knicks for decades now, how often does news like this happen and what ends up usually happening?
