what if this is all an elaborate marketing ploy.
get media attention by building up huge drama, get fans on their toes.
then all of a sudden, when things look bleak, match lin's offer, causing people to celebrate by buying knicks' jerseys and merchandise.
very smart, mr. dolan, very smart.

I do not see Lin returning with what Melo and JR Smith said.

Obviously someone thinks that its a fair contract, because he got offered it.
The rockets also only have one guard uner contract and need to bring something in to give to fans if they cant get dwight. Lin most likely wont live up to that 15 mil in year 3 but he will sell tickets and merch so Houston doesnt have much to lose signing him. Amare is a sunk cost, it was signed years ago his contract shouldnt be a factor for comparison. I see your point with Novak and yes he is over paid. Yes I think we should match the ridiculous contract for Lin as well, in order to give us the best roster we can have but it is still a ridiculous offer.
Lin will be a bargain at 8 mil per year.
Rondos getting paid 10 mill a year. Thats a bargain. 8 mill for Lin? I personally dont think so. But no one can see the future so We wont know till we get tehre.

How come its different with Melo. We got about 3 interviews of quotes with Melo saying he wants lin back, but you guys ignore those interviews and say things like melo is jealous.

So you are saying a 5,5,15 million dollar contract for a guy that has barely played 30 games isn't ridiculous??

rammagen wrote:Hate to say this but AI agree with mwello and JR on this. i don't mind players getting payed but come on now 14 mill a yr for Lin for 25 games and no show in the play offs?
I'll pass. JR while an idiot at least took a pay cut to what he could have made to show he wants to be here. Versus Lin I don't mind he got a deal couldn't care less but he has to play at wade/kidd/mello levels the entire year. He has shown he can't break the press the heat gave him and when he could have played in the playoffs he bailed. Sorry I am hard on the team and Mello and Amare but Lin came away looking clean got payed but he blew his chance in NYC his Agent should shut the f up and realized he robbed Houston on 25 games.
I expected 16 and 7 or 14 and 8 from Lin I'll get that production from Felton at a 1/4 of the cost what does that show you...
And you people over reacting and bawling grow a pair are you a Knick fan or a Lin fan because if you are Lin fan enjoy Houston. Go troll their board and stop talking crap here.
I would sign him because he represents youth but at 14 million dollars a year that has to be production
Lin isn't gett 14m/yr
He's effectively getting 8m/yr

It's really not about the quote. Ton of people have been reporting that there was some bad blood.

If Knicks fans were asked to choose between Lin and Smith, I'm pretty sure most of them would take Lin.

even if Lin rejects it, the fans would not be going batchit like they are right now

This
Basketball wise it doesn't have an effect on our cap situation and business wise I have to assume that Lin will make quite a bit for Dolan, atleast enough to offset the contract by a large margin.
I just don't understand the reason for not matching unless there is some other variable here.

It sucks to see this franchise let monetary concerns or personal grudges prevent them from retaining Lin who can either be a decent starter or trade piece in the future.
I don't like the precedent this sets if we let Lin go.
Again, this has nothing to do with money and everything to do with Woodson not believing in Lin.
Fit is irrelevant. The kicks over the next three years are hamstrung when it comes to signing or trading for new talent. We should hold onto every asset we have regardless of fit. MSG doesn't charge small market prices so they shouldn't act like a small market club worrying about the luxury tax.
