Re: Felton traded to Knicks; Not matching Lin? (part 3)
The "Melo fans" -- whatever that means (we're all Knicks fans so that distinction is so stupid to me) --
but to those who love Melo --
Y'all should very seriously reconsider your position. Lin leaving will spell the end of Melo's happy tenure in NY. Fans are already suspicious of him. After his comments, and the fact that he didn't beg the Knicks to keep Lin, it is going to be hell for Melo.
Think about it -- I'm ready to hate Melo. I'm a completely positive fan who hopes against hope and believes in the team.
Whether you like it or not, Melo is going to get the blame for Lin, the fans at MSG are going to be SALTY, depressed and looking for an enemy. That enemy will definitely be Melo. He is going to get killed. Booed, harassed and hated. He will be miserable.
You KNOW this is true.
So whether you AGREE with it or not -- this Lin decision is crucial to Melo's success.
Without Lin, Melo's tenure becomes instant misery. They'll boo Felton too. Some Amar'e. But Melo will get the huge amount of blame. He'll be the focal point -- he'll be embarrassed in his hometown.
I promise you.

Sigh. No offense, but it's difficult to talk to people on this board when they are full of emotion. Just because the Knicks have a history of being frivolous doesn't mean they need to continue to be frivolous. In my opinion the only bad contract that we own right now is Amar'es. Lin is coming off of surgery, and played only a third of a season before he seriously injured himself. It could end up that the Knicks might just add another bad contract. It could be wrong. But I'm tired of the Knicks overpaying for lottery tickets. We did it with JJ, Eddy Curry, Allan Houston, etc. It needs to stop eventually. And Grunwald has been, in my opinion, giving out completely fair deals.
Novak????
3 million dollar contracts aren't that hard to move. We just moved a ton of them the last two weeks. But I guess a 15 million expiring contract might get some bidders, too.

And that's the quote we're talking about as opposed to no quotes from Lin supporting the "he's frosty" sentiment. Now, if Melo came out and said he didn't say that, then it'd be the same situation.
What is jealous about that? It is ridiculous. End of story. Doesnt mean he is jealous or mad that Lin is getting it. It was just an honest statement.
I didn't mention one thing about jealousy.

MSG is going to come firing out of the gate if Lin walks and you know for a FACT, Isola and crew will spin it as Melo's fault (I do think it is, though) that it was him who wanted Lin gone.
Melo is going to get the A-Rod treatment from now on.

If anything Melo should give some of his salary of last season to Lin for saving his ass from missing the playoffs.

Wow, I just came back onto this forum (been out the past 2 days) and have read the updated news.
As for Lin, it's really a huge question mark. 28 or so games isn't enough of a sample size, but if they let Lin walk and he becomes a star for the Rockets it will really really sting. He could also turn out to be a bust.
I honestly think he'll becoming a good PG in the mold of 16-18 points and 6-8 assists. I would definitely not let him walk.

I'm not asking about the Knicks. It's easy to spend Dolan's money.
This hypothetical team is your own. You have no one on the roster. Blank slate. You have 100 million dollars to spend over 3 years. You have an option to sign Lin for a contract that will cost you 43 million. Do you do it?
This scenerio doesn't make sense on so many levels, but I'll play anyway.
First of all your not accounting for the revenue lin will create for dolan.. increase in ticket prices, merchandise sales which include international sales etc.. these things will more than make up the 43mllion dollar difference
as many have already stated, the luxury tax is applied to teams who have PLAYERS that combine to make more than the preset tax threshold. So jeremy lin is as responsible for our being in this predicament as mike bibby is.
Even if lin puts up average numbers 14/6, he'd be very easy to unload this january or at the end of this year. He's a cash cow and there are many owners out there who are driven by revenue more than winning. Even in the third year, 15million expiring wouldn't be that hard to move.
i just can't believe the same owner who agreed to pay shandon anderson 7 million a year for 6 years is not willing to give lin an average of 8mil over 3 yrs.

KG, maybe there is a reason no body on the Knicks is rushing to Lin's aid. Maybe what we saw was an aberration of MD's system and the staff and players are suspicious of it. We'll find out if they match or not.
Maybe, just maybe, you're wrong about Lin's upside.

Yeah and the pressure gets to him. Last year you could tell he was upset at the fans shouting "pass' at him. And then he tweeted the picture of him on the cross or whoever? He's going to crack.

Dolan's got enough media members paid off to paint Lin as the devil incarnate.

How come its different with Melo. We got about 3 interviews of quotes with Melo saying he wants lin back, but you guys ignore those interviews and say things like melo is jealous.

It's just gonna be a miserable season for the team and the fans next year unless we get off to a quick start. Any glitches and the sharks will be looking for blood.

Save the 6 Million Dollars that you would pay lin a Savings Account
Trade Fatso by the ASB in Year 2
Just like that you Shave 13 Million of the Lux Tax
Also since all thje Contracts are coming off the Books by year 4, think of it was one lump sum.
Anucha got paid 20 Million, I think Larry Brown got paid more ... why the Knicks doing this to us?
