Assuming Melo has a good run with Team USA and is wearing a gold medal with Chandler at the end of the summer, it would take A LOT for fans to turn on him. Fans aren't going to go from cheering for him in the Olympics to treating him like scum.

Y'all heard what JR Smith said about Lin. Basically saying their are guys who have done it longer than Lin and gets nothing.

"I'm sure the city would love to have him back, but the team decided to go in a different direction," Smith said. "It's nothing personal, I don't think, just business. We just hope everybody can benefit from here.

Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.

"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

I really don't want you to be rooting with hope against hope for Ray Felton to get us over the hump.

I respect and admire all Knicks fans and ESPECIALLY the wholly positive ones -- so I have no beef with you guys at all and wouldn't disrespect you -- but I can't stand with you this time.

This would be the epitome of shooting ourselves in the foot. It would wreck our chances and wreck any real hope you could have as a fan.

So it's not about being a jerk -- I'll never go there. I hope to death I'm wrong and Lin stays.

But I have the benefit of 29 years of being a fan. I see where this is going and until the final nail is in the coffin, I'm going to speak the truth.

This is a totally unacceptable turn of events.

You act like his name is Jeremy Lebron James Lin.... You've been outspoken about the success you expect Lin to have, how you're okay with Lin over cp3 etc etc so it makes sense that you're so pessimistic about what becomes of this team without him... But you have to relax with this stuff.

Sure we'd be better with him.. And Felton is what he is... But to act like we go from contender to bottom feeder because we swap Lin for Felton is shortsighted... We have other good pieces we've added and Felton/Kidd will be serviceable.... Lin brings potential and mystery... Young kid that righted things last season for us, I get it.. But it's not the end of the world....

At what point would you say Lin isn't worth the $$? Would you pay him 20 a year? I get that the Knicks told him to get his value.. But do you blame Lin at all for the situation at hand, or does he come out clean looking like the little Harvard guy trying to make a living.... He has to have some say in where he goes, doesn't he? If he truly wanted to be in NY why would he sign to these new terms without making sure NY was still adamant about signing at any cost. Sounds more like he's sticking it to them and playing hardball - even having understood the Knicks played the 'get your value' game.

I agree that there seems to be something more to it... Maybe it was the 85% stuff, rubbed Dolan the wrong way... Or maybe they don't value his basketball skills as much as others seem too, and believe Kidd/Felton is a better package all things considered..

If Dolan/Knicks aren't sold on Lin, I understand not wanting to pay 43 million for him.. I also understand not having a great taste in their mouth with the way things have been going thus far - again, 'get your value' considered.. Something just seems a little odd about forcing your own team to pay that kind of $$ to keep you when they were the ones that gave you the shot. But he has every right to go after the $, just like Fields did... But he has himself to blame if he wants money and Houston over Knicks...

It boils down to money for all, especially when you're road has been as rocky as Lins.. and when we'll know what he is next contract.. But there are too guys like JR who, oddly enough, showed it's not always about $$

Yeah, that dude needs to chill out. To say we have no hope because the "Almighty" Jeremy Lin is no longer on the team, is a little paranoid. He has no playoff experience and half a season under his belt. Maybe he'll pan out, maybe he won't. In the meantime, we rolling with what we got. None of this "WE HAVE NO HOPE NOW THAT HE'S GONE!"... WTF.

You can take your anger out on JR and Melo all you want. How this has gone has nothing to do with either. Lin agreeing to force the Knicks to sign the offer sheet or lose him can't be blamed on either.

Won't matter what the sane ones think. You don't think the media wouldn't be all over Melo for running Lin outta town.

to all the people sayin' the knicks are just trolling the rockets, what is the point of that? Do the rockets really care? if lin leaves the knicks, the rockets are gonna benefit from all the bread their gonna get. by dragging the situation even longer, comments made by melo and jr smith make me question the camaraderie they once had. this is not a good look for lin coming back.

Even if Lin returned, the Knicks will probably have to give up Tyson Chandler as well in a 3 way deal or something.

Can't believe people are mad at Melo and talking trash about him.
Melo is the best player on the Knicks by far and if we have to choose Melo or Lin, then too bad. Bye Lin.

I would love for the Knicks to match Lin's offer, btw. I think he has a lot of potential.

Preaching to the choir. Its a pipe dream, but you know 100% those two have talked about it happening somehow. We definitely aint winning jack with Felton leading the chatge.

I don't get why KG is so hurt by what Melo says. We should know by know he's not that bright and the media is known to bait these type of comments. And was what he said really that bad? I mean, $15m for Lin is ridiculous and I want us to match. It's also not Melo's responsibility to have management match Lin. Melo is not in the front office and he's not Michael Jordan, LeBron or Kobe. Melo hasn't reached that level where he has a say in management. Tyson would and should have more influence to be honest.

To bring some context into this OVERPAID argument (ignoring the poison pill--this is just from grumblings around the league). Here is a list of players getting paid between 6-9 million. I personally don't know if I'd trade Lin for any of them:

Amir Johnson
Kyle Lowry
Tayshaun Prince
Rodney Stuckey
Charlie Villanueva
Thad Young
Jeff Green
Omer Asik
Luke Walton
Andy Varejao
Glen Davis
Jason Richardson
JJ Reddick
Trevor Ariza
Andray Blatche
Drew Gooden
Beno Udrih
Samuel Dalembert
Desagna Diop
Tyrus Thomas
Devin Harris
Shawn Marion
Brendan Haywood
Al Harrington
Wilson Chandler
Aaron Afflalo
Andris Biedrins
Mike Conley
Wesley Matthews
Metta World Peace
Kendrick Perkins
Josh Childress
Marcin Gortat
Channing Frye
Marvin Williams
Mo Williams
Paul Millsap
Marcus Thorton
Francisco Garcia

Yeah. It sounds like majority of the team does not want Linsanity. Number one supporter is out (Jeffries). Best friend is out (Fields).

The remaining better prove they can get it done.

We had this thread about the three year window. I was mentioning it really wasn't a three year window since we have guys who can definitely get better. Well, the best one is gone. Another decent one is gone too. I won't be shocked Shump be traded for another veteran at some point.

Finally: Last rookie contract that we extended is still Charlie Ward.

At least Melo wanted to be a Knick. The Knicks was the only place he wanted to be. Unlike Lin who is in Houston.

Melo is looking out for the Knicks.

NY has a very short memory. If we come out like 5-10, then the ish will hit the fan. The media is just waiting for an excuse to dump all over the Knicks.

lol at the people thinking Lin signed to a contract that pays him $15mil in its 3rd year is somehow a "trade asset". What team is going to take Lin being paid at $15MM in the 3rd year w/ the current luxary tax penalties?

Only way that contract becomes a good asset is if Lin somehow flirts with Dwill/Westbrook/Rondo territory of PGs (which I wouldn't bet on)
