But NOW all the sudden the luxury tax is a big deal? IF we match LIn, lets say our payroll is 90 million for that one year 14-15 and we pay another 40 million in luxury tax which brings it to 130 million. But at the same time we would have a contender with all the money opportunities with Lin. I dont see how this is any diff than paying 100+ million all those years for losing teams, and nobody ever said anything back than about Dolan caring about payroll.

In the new CBA, I believe they have to pay 1.5X the over on the cap...Isiah's Knicks didn't have to worry about that. They just paid dollar for dollar whatever they were over.

What Im saying is we had years where our payroll was 100+ million outright. Even in LIn's third year, it wont be more than 90 million outright. Than we would have to pay about 45 million in luxury tax bringing it to 135 million. But having a winning product, possible contender, and marketing Lin would easily offset that.

Main point is Dolan was easily paying over 100 million dollars for crappy Layden and than Isiah teams and nobody ever said a word about payroll.

Chilling out with the Givenchy crew, studying for finals in Miami, who knows.

Why does Amare have to be anywhere? This is entirely a management thing. If Melo and JR were follwing the Amare route, we wouldn't have people lifting up their skirts for the last 2 days

Can the Knicks really make up that 40 million tax with Lin's marketability?

I've asked this question three times, and have yet to get an answer. Perhaps no one on the board knows, but if we don't match, wouldn't that be a clear indication his value off the court for this franchise could not go any higher? Lin only dramatically improved the value of the franchise when he was playing like a franchise player with game winners and exciting finishes. If he regresses, does he become Yi Jianlin?

Just having him on the team and being Asian is not enough to ensure he makes the Knicks money, right? He has to be as good as he's been to justify this contract, right?

what crazy about it is the fanbase attracted to Lin is benefiting the entire league, not just the Knicks.

the entire league shares the merchandising revenues, and the Knicks will still continue to sellout with or without him.

I do think the stock spike was real though.

You're missing the most important part;, selling broadcasting rights to Knicks games to fans abroad.

I think he saw some momentum heading that way, and decided it was his time to report some garbage to try to shake things up.

SAS trying to cause a stir with his articles.

No way..

Red Vines wrote:The longer this drags out the more I believe we'll match. The Knicks know that Lin is a fan favorite and that there will be a backlash if they don't match, so the more this drags out the more the fans mobilize and the more anger builds and bigger PR nightmare it becomes. If they have no plans to match it would be in their best interest to make it quick and move on as fast as possible to promote the players that they've already acquired like "Hey! Look over here! It's Kurt Thomas! Remember him! Yeah...good times."

It doesn't serve the Knicks to do anything quickly, whether it is to match, or not match.

If we match that "ridiculous" contract, I want him to feel the heat. He should have as much pressure as Melo, Amar'e and Tyson, as well as Woodson for the Knicks to succeed, and AT LEAST make it to the ECF.

Nah... still played pretty well when everybody was healthy.

If everyone was healthy throughout the year, there would have been no Linsanity. His level dropped off, and he would never have been given those game winning opportunities with Melo, and rightfully so. Linsanity was a result of Amare/Melo injuries, Lin's skills, and the league not having any information on him. What the league adjusted, we saw Lin level off. I keep asking, what are the chances we see the game-winning 18/7 Lin next year? I think it's pretty minimal, and wouldn't be worth that last year's tax hit.
