Dolan has to compete with Brooklyn. Casual fans now have an alternate team to root for if the Knicks start to piss them off. Those BK Nets snapbacks are like the hottest item in the area right now. Knicks aren't dumb. They will match. At the end of the day, the contract stinks, but the ball is still in their court.

Seems like everyone has a Brooklyn Nets tee. I went to summer school for a free metrocard and literally almost all the boys had a Nets tee on.

If Batum gets 46M for 4 years, I don't think 25M for 3 years is that expensive for a player having upside.

why would Lin want to go to HOU its not like Yao is still playing there

Maybe Lin doesn't like living in the big city? (Even though Houston is still pretty big, but not NY big).

Lin knows he'll be most likely the best player on the team. Plus there's no pressure to win, as Morey's trying to muster up a top pick in 2013. If Lin is in Houston, he's in a good situation. Who cares if he's losing games. The guy is in the NBA with a guaranteed, nice contract.

I'd say they should sign him and then try to trade him after a year or two if they don't want to pay the price of third year.. But his value is at a likely all time high right now.. And that'd be taking a pretty big risk. Though at least you'd probably get something back for him..

Or...they are getting Felton at a discount and can never have too much talent when you are pursuing a title?

Possibility.. Would make sense basketball wise, but I doubt it. Taking on more $ to sign another PG to the mix? Not happening.

SAS mentioned today he heard from a 'source' that Felton's people were told he'd have the job and that Lin won't be returning, i believe.

I don't think there is anything really left to say. I always assumed that management, the coaching staff, and Lin's teammates liked him and genuinely wanted him back, but since this is not the case, then it's pointless to match at this juncture. We all had this ideal vision of going to war with Lin as part of our core, but these aren't chess pieces...these are human beings. And as much as it pains me that the vision won't be realized - and that I won't be able to see him play with a NYK jersey on - I'd much rather he go do his thing in Houston if he is more appreciated there. I'd rather have that than any more drama: a rift between Melo and Lin, a rift between JR and Lin, Woodson not really wanting Lin as his PG. I'm just so sick and tired of this kind of petty behavior; there's only so much I can take it, especially after the Melo-MDA feud.

fair enough that deal is alos ridiculous. So is blowpez max and to a lesser extent Hibbert and Gordon. FWIW the trend this summer does seem to be grossly over paying players. Thought the CBA was gonna fix that.

If Dwight trade to Nets had been finalised, I'm sure that Dolan would had matched any offer for him... I think D-12 talk stall with the Nets did affect our FO strategy!!
