How would you like the Suns win a championship?

Post#1 » by NotTraxxe » Sat Jul 14, 2012 2:31 pm

So here is the question: By what style and manner do you want to see the Suns finally earn some rings?

I like the cinderella story the most. These rarely plan out but imagine if the Thunder would of won the championship...

What a cool situation that would of been where a home grown team with smart moves through the draft and a couple of witty trades and shrewdness lead to a championship! They have Harden's story, undersized but the sixth man that brings the spark from the bench. They have Perkins who is just a grizzly mean dude... the sort of dude who just would dig your shallow grave and grimace the whole time. Durant, hometown star hero... Westbrook... your bad blood. That is a good story and if they can keep it together I'll be happy when I see them win it. And I hope it is next year against the Heat.

For me the Heat would be a less than desirable story to have winning. They bought their way to the championship... granted the Wade factor makes it a little better. They have their home town star... etc.

I would loathe a championship bought through free agency like the Knicks. The Lakers have Kobe and I hate to say it but the style by which we come to a championship would be better done the Lakers way instead of the Knicks. The Knicks tried to buy it outright and force it. They didn't not do it the baksetball way with developing and using their wits... and the Lakers at least have Kobe who was a hell of a smart pick and talent.

I would like to see the Suns draft their way to a championship. And I don't want one superstar leading the path. Call me old fashioned but I want to see team basketball and a better story to getting our rings. That's why I love the idea of Marshall. The little fangirl inside of me is giggling romancing on the notion of a non-scoring PG, with some hard working talent (Shabazz!) and maybe a redemption story (Beasley or Mayo).

I want a few Suns who were Suns from the beginning on the team. I want a remeption player (I would of been fine with just Beasley). 1 Home grown star. And then a dynamic team with different skill sets... dynamic passer, ball scorer, pick and roll center PG combo. Some sharpshooters. And a Jared Dudley like player. A workhourse with little physical gifts but a motor and a will... like Dudley. Or Hornacek even... Anyway. That's kinda how I want to see it happen.

(No Homo) (Suns Homo Maybe) (Maybe a little Homo)

I'd like us to be the first team to win without a superstar, or.. not the first, but a team to win without relying on a star, a team that revolves around teamwork.

^This. Not to put down any of the players we currently have but I'd also like to see a group of "mid-level" guys work together to get a ring. Much better and respectable than some of these guys signing with teams to make "super teams". I love the model Sam Presti and the Thunder have made with drafting though.

Something like the 04 pistons or maybe even the mavs. I would like the finals MVP to be a huge debate.
I like Draft Picks/Cap Space, long walks on the beach, and short youtube clips.

By running, by playing with integrity (no flopping, bitching, etc), no distractions, no cancers, and by being generally likeable.

There is no joy in success if you're a piece of crap organization with piece of crap people on the team.

I could not care how they do it. Been too long and we've suffered too many emotional rollercoaster rides for me to dictate how I want it won haha

Ideally it'd be like others have said - through teamwork rather than a superstar system, but honestly I couldn't care less HOW we win it..

Yes... Whatever it takes to get the Larry O'Brien Trophy. I WANT IT!

It would not be the first though. The Pistons and Blazers have done it that way.

Sadly through teamwork rarely works. In the next 10 years we'll see superstars dominate(Miami, Lakers, Brooklyn, Knicks and etc) and win a championship. I doubt Suns will win a ring in next 15 to 20 years so why even talk about this?

well,

I would loathe a championship bought through free agency like the Knicks.

but it usually requires a significant payroll with the atleast half the salary devoted to free agent stars(or similar) not just drafted "homegrown" players.

some recent examples:

2012 Heat Salary: 74.3 million; 46.2 million spent on free agents
2011 Mavericks Salary: 85.1 million; 63.8 million spent on free agents
2010 Lakers Salary: 91.4 million; 38.91 million spent on free agents (43% of the roster was comprised of non-homegrown players, props to the Lakers for drafting well despite never being in the lottery)
2008 Celtics Salary: 74.5 million; 48.7 million spent on free agents
2006 Heat Salary: 60.7 million; 48 million spent on free agents

The 2007 Spurs are an exception- a team doesnt always have to "buy" its way too a championship. Outside of Duncan, like the Lakers they have made some GREAT (late) draft picks and role players acquired through F/A.

The Knicks tried to buy it outright and force it. They didn't not do it the baksetball way with developing and using their wits... and the Lakers at least have Kobe who was a hell of a smart pick and talent.

how are the Lakers and Heat not forcing it but the Knicks are? The Lakers have Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, neither top 10 draft picks (and Andrew Bynum who they snagged at #9, I think?). The Heat have Wade and Haslem. I have already showed you the salaries.

If the Knicks kept their core from last year and hypothetically growing, they have Lin and Fields...I count Lin as a homegrown player because he didn't do crap in G.S.

Because its more fun thinking about how the Suns win a Championship rather than how they lose for the next 15 to 20 years.

I would want teamwork, a home grown kid, a past his prime vet that was never able to get over the hump, and a true underdog story. Something that would make a good movie 10 years after it happens.

It would be nice to see the Suns win it with home grown talent (Draft) but anyway they get I will take it.

With a dominant wing and big man with good shooters, rebounders, and defenders at the other positions.

I just want them to win. In the grand scheme of things, I don't care how they do it. Just get it done.

We'd get used to how they play regardless but I would prefer exciting basketball over slow and boring basketball.
