Optimism or Negativism?

Post#1 » by hsraffety » Mon Jul 16, 2012 1:33 am

So, with the moves the Suns have made thus far, how are you starting to feel about next season? They've gone through a rebuilding process quite fast, and while they don't have a huge superstar, they have some good components. If they pick up OJ Mayo, that could even help expedite the process.

From where we're at today, how do you guys feel?

They get an A for effort, I like that we got Dragic back he can develope into exactly what we want in a Pg. I love that we took a chance on Beastly, with the options available the only way to get better is to take a chance on talent, and we did. Luke warm on the Scola thing, but the dude dose have a very good, reliable game. Happy we gave Steve the opportunity to do great things, and elated we got assets for him. Looking foward to what we are going to do at Sg, fingers crossed.

It depends how OJ and Beasley do in this up tempo offense. If they live up to their original potential then we'll be golden, if not we will be 7-10 the next few years and have no superstar or young stud to build around.

I'd like to be positive but I don't see this current team getting out of the first round.

Gotta be optimistic. Also have to wait and see what the rest of the moves are. For example, if we re-sign Lopez, that leaves our frontcourt crowded. If Frye backs up Scola, how does Markieff develop?

Beasley is also better at the 4.

But perhaps we have a trade up our sleeves...don't want to judge too much until I see the end game. I don't think we've given out any crazy contracts, but of course, we do have 5 power forwards at the moment, so it would be nice if we had some shooting guards.

We do have some players that could be exciting though....I'm always excited for the new season and new players and hope for the best.

Can't really tell until we see our new acquired in action. But I've never expected us to get Scola, Dragic and Beasley just like that. Pretty impressible if you ask me.

For someone who hates Steve Nash now and hates the organization for blow after blow after blow, I can't help but feel intrigued enough to actually watch to begin the season next year.

My overall interest level in the league is absolutely nil, however.

I am thrilled that the Suns front office actually was able to acquire this many free agents. Hopefully Mayo joins us and our roster will be complete. I like the way it's looking. We have solid starters, and a solid bench. I know several of our board members want Frye gone, but Dudley and Frye are the core of our bench, and their efficiency is incredible against opposing teams benches. I'd like to keep Frye, and Lopez, you can't have too much height. Plus Lopez is a good trading asset.
I'm gonna agree with an above poster though and say, this team isn't getting out of the first round... this year. But if they build enough chemistry and develop as a team, I think we have a talented roster.

We have a great team of complimentary players. I think we're still missing that player that will get us competing for championships.

You know if we dump frye and gortat in one sided trades after the upcoming season we could offer d12 a max contract.Im sure someone would take gortat for sure in a trade. That would take us from being a rebuilding team to championship contenders.Im i being to optimistic ?

^Everyone keeps saying that. But what player is that? Was that type of player a Steve Nash? Or an Amare Stoudemire?
This team is going to be a super run-and-gun team, if we get Mayo. We have so many versatile lineups...

Regular starting lineup-
Dragic/Mayo/Beasley/Scola/Gortat

Threes!-
Dragic/Mayo/Dudley/Beasley/Frye

Fast-Break
Dragic/Mayo/Beasley/Morris/Gortat

And a bunch of other lineups... lol.

I'm optimistic just for the changes, independent of results. There is a lot of uncertainty, specially with Dragic and Beasley, and also with what kind of trades will happen in the future....but I support the attempts at restructuring so aggressively and fast. If it works, awesome, if it doesn't, the cost is low and we still have enough flexibility to fix it. So low risk, high potential profit, equals good decisions

There has been a definite talent upgrade as a whole, losing Nash sucks but getting quality FA's is always good.

The key is going to be, fitting these pieces together. The obvious challenge is putting the players in the their best positions to succeed, and then pushing them further to see if they can give you the unexpected. I point to Beasley specifically. To much ISO at this point in his career, but as the stats don't tell, his first 4 years forced him into that much ISO. Anyone that watched those Heat teams knew Spolestra wasn't running anything creative, and he loves to run isolation plays on the wings. Well Beasley was the only player besides Wade that could get their own shot, they ran Beasley iso's a lot. But, he then would get to caught up in that funk, and would just stand around waiting for the ball. He's got to be active, cutting to the basket instead of waiting to have to bail the team out. It turned into ISO on steroids in Minny, as in year one, no one could get their own shot but him. But...again...he still found himself standing around just waiting for the ball to come back to him.

It will be interesting to see how Gentry makes sure Beasley's talent is maximized.

Neither. I feel curiosity.

What the heck are they doing with 5 PFs? What are they planning on trading? Will Beasley be the flaming disaster I expect? Will this be the worst defensive team in the NBA? Will Dragic continue playing at the level he did in Houston? What are we going to trade for to fill the hole at 2 guard? How will we dump Warrick? Will there be a S&T for Lopez, given he's probably behind Frye and Gortat?

Will we win more than 32 games?
