I still think that Vesely should play the SF position like he did in Europe...He was the 2010 best young european player for a reason...

he is not skilled enough or quick enough to guard other SFs in the NBA

Yeah, people kept saying he's a great athlete. Well, he is a good athlete for a 6'11 240 PF, but he's definitely not a great athlete for an NBA 3. And for a 3, he's a terrible shooter.

Singleton I think has potential to be a good rotation guy. Good versatility and size but hell never be anything great. He was a good pick for his draft position but Veseley....cmon with Kawai Leonard on the board
So Leonard is the guy you wanted at # 6? I mean you wanted him at #6 *on draft day?* Not in retrospect?
If you say so....
Btw, no Singleton was *not* a good pick for his draft position -- Faried was there; for that matter I'd unquestionably have taken Tobias Harris over Singleton. Especially if we had a "tank plan" as people keep saying. Motiejunas, for that matter, if we were planning to be bad (as if we had a choice!!).

I wanted Leonard with the 6th pick and said so at the time. But I'm also not as disappointed with Ves as some of you. I see him potentially being worth a top 10 pick...maybe even the 6th pick.
I love Ves size and length, and his hustle and athleticism. Maybe most of all, I love Jan's bball smarts. I'm convinced that with more experience and muscle Ves will be an above average rebounder and defender.
Ves has also shown an improved outside shot during summer league. Let's hope it's for real.

Haven't watched any summer league(don't plan on it either)but good to see Ves showing improvement, especially his jumper. Hope it translates to the regular season...
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

His jumper looks MARVELOUS. He just needs to not fall in love with it like Andray did.

I'm just glad he is shooting without hesitation. His form looks good.
He needs to start rebounding with his body now, not on his athleticism.

Veseley's upside I think is Serge Ebaka....but to me at the moment he has very little impact.
Fist he nowhere near the rim protector the Ebaka is or Mcgee was
Second hes not strong enough to get position and be a good rebounder.
He runs the floor and has good energy but thats about it for me.

I'm right there with you on Vesely. It angers me to watch him in the Summer League becasue I know people are going to come in here kissing his ass just because he's knocking down more jump shots.

Re: Jan Vesely
Vesely is a bonafide Summer League dud. What the hell does an improved shot mean if you're not going to be assertive on offense? It's like he only developed it because somebody told him to. Should be kicking butt and abusing these guys; Summer League is his shot to get loose and play free but he's not helping Singleton hold the fort offensively. Vesely's an offensive fluke but at least he still has hops, can catch the alley-hoop, and has good instincts.
Admit already, Grunfeld screwed up on the pick! Should've selected Marcus Morris.

Yeah, I'm not sure why anyone is still pimping Marcus Morris as a viable option. He couldn't even see the floor his rookie season and didn't set the world on fire in the NBDL. Morris is the absolute definition of a tweener. He's not ideally skilled or athletically superior as a 3 and he's very undersized as a 4. In other words, he may end up in Turkey after his rookie contract.

Take one step at a time. Considering he has no post game and really can't handle well enough to blow by big guys, it's a start. Guys have been leaving him open because he can't or won't shoot. Now if they crowd him some, he can at least attempt the ball on the deck and try and crreat for himself or his teammates.

He had a nice move Sun night where he dribbled by his man and took a euro step before shooting.

Please man. A Wizards fan should know better than to try to use a player's rookie stats against him. Marcus Morris didn't even get minutes in Houston. Vesely played more than twice the minutes Morris did and didn't exactly light the world on fire. Morris would've been more productive as a Wizard his rookie season than Vesely was.

While It has only been 1 year, what other information are you going to go on other than Vesley/Morris's rookie season? Of course time will tell but I'm not the one who is claiming already that Grunfeld "screwed up the pick". It is good that you bring up Morris because that was a realistic option and based on most mocks since those were the players that were available, but I don't think he will be any better than Vesley.

Morris didn't even get to lift his a$$ off the bench last year so he's clearly a better option than Vesely? Gimme a break. Vesely was chosen based on potential, not immediate impact. He already looks like he's made good improvement this offseason, but I don't expect a huge jump till next year - EG was fairly upfront about this when Ves was drafted. Morris was apparently chosen because he doesn't fart too much while occupying the bench. Morris may be great in a year or tow, but not if he can't figure out how to get on the court. Good thing for Morris Houston only has 5 other guys playing his position now, ey

Just because you say he would have been more productive, doesn't make it so. People have debated the stats already regarding Jan. He showed good signs at latter portion of season. With an improved jump shot he won't be a liability anymore. He still seems a bit slower to me...I'm hoping he handles his supposed weight gain correctly. The only person I wish we took over him was Leonard. I could see the argument for faried, but I don't see him being a starter on a contender.

Re: Jan Vesely
Yeah, I like Marcus Morris' skills and potential, but it's hard to say that his rookie year was anything more than a big disappointment. And as has been pointed out - with Htn's forward dominated roster, his PT likely won't be high next season.
