I think Lin would prefer Huston than New York NOW, after the media rampage
But don't worry, Knicks will invite Lin to come back after a dozen of years

Good news is that with linsanity and the commotion that comes with it, our new mods like tmu and Tmacformvp would actually have something to do now.

I hope we get jeremy lin. Because i dont want to get through a season watching fortson or machado play incompetent pg for us. Dragic is bright side, but he can't seem to shoot worth a damn. He can pass decent though.

RE: adrenLINe

I don't think anybody is debating Lin isn't marketable. Hell, I don't think anyone is saying Lin in the grand scheme of things doesn't even deserve that contract. I don't know why you're going to great lengths to try to prove something that nobody is arguing. It's rather that, we as ROCKETS FANS, are looking at it from a strict on the court basketball point of view. Seriously, what do we care how much money Les makes off of Lin? Now, if you want to discuss how it may be a strategic move to potentially enhance exposure/media; all of it being in relation to a selling point for all the Dwight Howard hoopla, then that would serve more credence. You know why? Because it would have something to do with the Rockets roster and our moves going forward. As fans, we judge a contract w/ the production they bring on the court.

But you're coming in here, disrespecting other posters, and not understanding that there are some unhappy with potentially signing Lin, because as pure basketball players; it's likely he isn't any better an option that we already had last season in Lowry and Dragic; and we're paying Lin the same money as Dragic, and more than Lowry would have costed. And instead of trying to sell people on Lin the basketball player, you go on about Lin; the international marketing phenomenon. You may not care about anything else or anyone else on the Rockets, but you have to understand coming to a Rockets board, that won't really fly.

Discuss Lin, and how he'd fit with THE ROCKETS roster, not some propaganda that he deserves that contract because of outside the court factors (which NO ONE is denying). Don't post here if you can't do that.

Anyways...getting this thread back on track.

I think every sign would point towards the Knicks not matching, but does anyone have the details of what the contract they signed Felton to? Is it possible they could just be adding him as another depth piece, especially after letting Fields go? I mean, after the season Felton had (and similarly w/ Kidd to some regards), are they banking on that being enough in the EC? Then again, they could have signed someone else, and signed Felton less long term..unless they truly think Felton isn't far off from Lin?

And, if I had a choice, I would want the Knicks NOT to match. Yeah, yeah, I'd have preferred Dragic or Lowry, but what's done is done. As of now we don't have a PG, and Lin showed with solid defenders and athletes, he could thrive in a pick and roll game, and had a decent shot. His turnovers are a great concern, but he still had a positive impact on the Knicks offense (+2.9 ORTG). We can look at his production dipping, coincidentally with the coaching change (which would imply, he was a product of D'Antoni), but one could argue that w/ Melo coming back, and the offense being more centered around him; that naturally his stats would fall. And Melo, let's face it, is a ball stopper on offense. And he still wasn't even TERRIBLE when Melo came back. And he is only 23..

I wouldn't be depressed if the Knicks matched, but I'd like to see how he'd fare in our offense with our youth. And 8M is roughly the price tag for starting PG's these days, especially with ones that have shown the capability to be able to control games.

Knicksfan Here. An article from ESPN knicksblog.

The Knicks acquiring Raymond Felton could signal the departure of Jeremy Lin.

But is that the right move? ESPN Stats & Info says no, utilizing Synergy Sports technology.

Offensively, Lin is more efficient in pick-and-rolls, isolation and jumpers off the dribble, and he's more efficient on defense.

Here's a quick breakdown:

Pick-and-rolls -- Lin and Felton both relied on pick-and-rolls more than any other play type last season. It’s one of Lin’s least-efficient play types, but Felton was worse than Lin. Only three of the 41 players with at least 200 pick-and-roll ball-handler plays scored fewer points per play than Felton, who went to the free throw line nearly three times less often than Lin.

Isolations -- Isolation plays are where Lin excels. He scored the third-most points per play of the 91 players with at least 75 isolation plays last season. Felton ranked 68th. Felton turned the ball over on isolation plays more than twice as often as Lin, who turned it over on 6.5 percent of those plays, the 10th-lowest turnover rate among the 91 players.

Jumpers off the dribble -- Lin is better with the ball in his hands. Last season, he shot 32.7 percent on catch-and-shoot jumpers, including 35.9 percent on unguarded catch-and-shoot jumpers. But he shot 47.9 percent on jumpers off the dribble. Of the 102 players who attempted at least 90 jumpers off the dribble, only Stephen Curry and Steve Nash shot a higher field-goal percentage than Lin (47.9). Felton ranked 85th of those 102 players, shooting just 32.7 percent.

Transition -- Lin and Felton, who scored the exact same amount of transition points per play, were both very inefficient on transition plays last season. Jamal Crawford and Al-Farouq Aminu were the only two players with fewer points per transition play of the 130 players with at least 50 plays.

Passing -- As far as passing on pick-and-roll plays, Lin and Felton are almost identical. Felton passed the ball on 54 percent of his pick-and-roll plays, while Lin passed it 53 percent of the time. And both players’ teammates had nearly the same field-goal percentage and points per play on those passes. Felton passed it to the roll men more often, while Lin hit the cutters and spot-up shooters more often.

Felton passed the ball more often (29 percent) on isolation plays than Lin (17 percent). Lin was better at passing to cutters on isolation plays, resulting in a higher field-goal percentage and more points per play by his teammates on those passes. But with Lin’s high efficiency on isolation plays, it may not be such a bad thing that he only passes the ball on 17 percent of his isolation plays.

Defense -- Lin held opponents to fewer points per play and a lower field-goal percentage (37.8) last season than Felton (41.6). Of the 235 players to defend at least 300 plays, Lin allowed the 78th-fewest points per play, while Felton ranked 133rd.

Hey. Knicks fan. Felton is signed for a 3 year 10 million dollar contract.

To be honest with you I do think Lin will fluorish in your system if the Knicks do not match. Lin runs the pnr to perfection and from the rocket games I watched this year on my league pass that is all McHale runs. I do think you guys will end up really liking Lin but get aggravated by his Lin only fans but I think you are used to it from Yao. I am a big knicks fan and I will be pissed if the Knicks do not match the offer sheet but I can't give up on my knicks. Because I liked Lin a lot I will have to watch rocket games a lot more consistently now to see how he developed so I can drop a lot of i told you so's to all of my fellow knick fans who wanted him gone. Anyway Lin's style of play is very exciting although he will have to alter it slightly to preserve his body. Kidd said it best, he plays on one gear which is a very high gear. That doesn't mean he plays reckless just means that he is still very raw and needs to slow things down and find ways to attack the basket without risking injury (tony parker did the same, cp3 as well, derrick rose will have to learn this) so that his body can last. Find a second and 3rd gear to play on.

Also do not believe the hype that Lin didn't play well with Melo because he did. I watched every single game take my word for it. He is very clutch ranks 6th I believe in points scored in the fourth quarter and is also ridiculously efficient in the fourth quarter. He is an underrated defender ( I would say he is average with the potential to be much better). He gets to the FT line like a mad man he is 10th in the league in getting to the FT line and if he has off shooting nights can win you games by nailing FT's. He hit 41 of his last 42 FT's before injury. He needs to work on handling different defences tossed his way as well as ball pressure from a defender. That comes with training and more experience and such. He is very explosive going right, very hard to stop but less as explosive with his less dominant left hand. However he still manages to compensate for that but he needs to strengthen his left hand.

A lot of what he needs to work on are things that will get better with more NBA seasoning and with a training camp and off season. Right now he is a raw talent and I remember him from his harvard days he is very good at dominating games. Some days he would be just average and such but then the very next game something just clicks and he takes over and he just singlehandledy defeats the other team. Knick fans see this a lot in the fourth quarter as well he just dominates in the last 12 minutes. In harvard it was his team so maybe being a rocket will benefit him because you have all young guys so you can grow together and such. If you do land howard though Lin would adjust because he was more than willing to adjust to Melo Amare and Tyson plus he wants to win. Anyway, we will all find out soon enough if the Knicks decide not to match, hopefully he stays a knick so I do not have to boo him when we play the rockets. Otherwise I will be cheering for him and your team.

Just a quick thought. Lin is good to have here from a marketing perspective, the same reason Yao was.

Simply put, China.

How many players, (Rockets) got endorsement deals/sponsorship from China. How many went there to play as well. Dwight is wanting a major market team, because of the shoe contract/other endorsements. I think he'll get all he can handle if we get Lin, and he comes here. You will find it hard to beat the Chinese market.

In short, having Lin here might make us more attractive to FA's. I'm all for that.

And I would also like to say, that I am disappointed no one liked my Video. Come on, see me go coast to coast like Durant????

And Dunk like Shawn Bradley in his declining years. Comedy gold.

And I'd be a good Moderator, because of my God complex. (Olajuwon is God.)

Talking about things that happen between Lin/Melo & the Kincks MONTHS ago, that no one outside of NY would even care about.

Making cryptic racial comments, and for some reason acting like your some Overlord of the fanboys...

All there other fanboys dont come in with such trash talk.

LOL the Rockets are a scrub team at this point anyways...

stop pretending "we" are anything but a scrub team if you think Lin is a scrub

and I doubt Morey blew up your whole team to go for Lin...the scrub

it was to go for Howard... who said he did not want to come here...

Chances are Morey did this to get him or bust...

good thing is if Lin does what I think he will... we will revisit this thread again in a years time...

well I beg to differ..... I was debating with people who currently view the Lin situation on pure Meritocracy based on basketball merit,

they cant understand why you would pay more for Lin... over Goran...

well I gave the reasons even third party article from a economist

deserved or not... his marketability plays a huge factor in who ever signs him...

and you guys can pretend that talking purely basketball will do with the Lin situation... but not with his legion of casual fans... who will be here to talk about anything under the sun about him...

what you need to do is close off the forum to any new fans... because with 100 thousand hits in 1 1/2 days your going to get a lot of casual Lin fans... who dont care about fg% or pick and rolls etc etc

btw I have already signed up for Clutchfans... and I stated I was LOF

dragic record as a starter last season 13-15, if you only count those 26 games he started straight 13-13, if he continue to be the starter without a star, we could stuck at #9 again
lin proved he can win without a star
if the gamble is a win
then we can see us better at #9 or worst (which is also good, better draft pick)
lin will also help you make more money

wiretap says Lin wants to stay in New York. If that's the case then I don't want him here either. At least Dwight was upfront with it instead of trying to use us.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
