*Shooting guard options*

Post#1 » by Krush32 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 2:34 am

So we all know the Suns have a huge hole at shooting guard right now, so here are our free agent options right now:

Going by last seasons stats

O.J. Mayo - 24 yrs old, scorer, most potential, but wants $8mil a yr

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 MEM 66 0 26.8 0.408 0.364 0.773 0.5 2.7 3.2 2.6 1.1 0.4 1.9 2.1 12.6

Courtney Lee - 25 yrs old, defender, consistent all around player, but not a great scorer. Prob around $5 mil a yr.

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 HOU 58 26 30.3 0.433 0.401 0.826 0.4 2.3 2.7 1.5 1.2 0.4 1.1 1.8 11.4

Shannon Brown - 25 yrs old, more of a scorer I guess, IMO he sucks. Avg 11 pts on a bad team. Prob wants $3-4mil.

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 PHX 59 19 23.7 0.420 0.362 0.808 0.6 2.0 2.7 1.2 0.8 0.2 1.1 1.1 11.0

Marco Bellinelli - 25 yrs old, scorer, doesnt seem like a good defender, white. Around 3-4mil

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 NOH 66 55 29.8 0.417 0.377 0.783 0.3 2.3 2.6 1.5 0.7 0.1 1.0 1.7 11.8

Other UFA: barbosa, foye, deflino

Personally, I would go after Lee because he's a better defender and can hit an open 3 pointer. Kinda of a Raja Bell clone with more athleticism, and scoring ability. He also played alongside Dragic last season in Houston so there is some chemistry there. Not to mention he probably wants a few million a year compared to Mayo. Mayo would be cool but there is a reason the grizzlies didnt want him back, and his numbers have declined over the yrs.

Also, looking at a few guys we could probably obtain through trades:

Rip Hamilton - 34 yrs old, veteran, scorer, but not much range to 3 pt line

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 CHI 28 28 24.9 0.452 0.370 0.784 0.7 1.6 2.4 3.0 0.4 0.0 1.8 2.0 11.6

Jordan Crawford - 23 yrs old, dunked on lebron, dunked on lebron, dunked on lebron

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 WAS 64 32 27.4 0.400 0.289 0.793 0.7 1.9 2.6 3.0 0.9 0.1 2.2 1.7 14.7

Jason Richardson - OLD (have to look it up) likes to get drunk and drive around in scottsdale.

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 ORL 54 54 29.5 0.408 0.368 0.594 0.7 2.9 3.6 2.0 1.0 0.4 1.1 1.7 11.6

MarShon Brooks - 23 yrs old, scorer

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 NJN 56 47 29.4 0.428 0.313 0.764 1.3 2.3 3.6 2.3 0.9 0.3 2.1 2.1 12.6

Brandon Rush is a RFA too and he would kill all the percentages you posted for those other guys from last year.

What does Bellineli being white have to do with anything?

Obviously it goes Mayo then Lee, after that I put Delfino and then Foye. Bellineli can score but otherwise he's nothing useful. Barbosa pretty much the same way. Brown is a blackhole when he touches the ball I'd rather have more of a team player.

As for there being a reason the Grizzlies don't want Mayo back, it's because of their cap issues. They extended the QO on him then rescinded when they took a look at the numbers. They simply couldn't afford to keep him on as well. Mayo is basically equivalent production wise to Gordon at about 4-6M cheaper.

Lee is a solid all around player. I've liked his game since he was in Orlando. I'd happily take Mayo AND Lee if we can.

PG: Dragic, Marshall, Telfair
SG: Mayo, Lee, Dudley
SF: Beasley, Dudley, Morris
PF: Scola, Frye, Morris
C: Gortat , Frye (Possibly Lopez)

That's about 10-11 deep(depending on Lopez). Pretty good rotation. And a very explosive 2nd unit IMO. Marshall, Lee, Dudley, Frye, Lopez would be a nice balance of defense and offense(assuming lopez keeps his crap together)

Lets get Lee. Plus between him and Brown both of our shooting guards would have chick names.

There are really no solid options unless we package up some draft picks and try to pry someone away that another team isnt sure about, and give them an offer they are hesitant to refuse. Like I have seen someone mention Evan Turner, dont know what it would take to get him, but we have a **** ton on picks to negotiate with. Others are Marshon Brooks, them signing JJ means he will be coming off the bench for some time, we might be able to entice them. Wes Johnson should be available for the right price but I dont konw if he is a bust yet, he may be. With the evolving cap ideas in OKC, Sefolosha maybe??, probably not though. I say T Will should get a shot.

Dude, at one point we were willing to trade Richardson for T Will when he was in Jersey. The kid is an amazing athlete, he is a big defensive 2 next to Goran. He is still learning the game and developing. If we can get him for cheap, what is there not to like.

Gee is more of a Sf. who can play Sg. while Williams is more of a Sg. who can paly Sf. if that makes any sense. Gee playes more of a meek, buisnesslike limited ofense and killer instinct, foward game, Will is more of a flashy athletic alpha male 2 guard. I would take Williams.
