I can see someone born and raised in Brooklyn switching to the Nets.
Just a must-watch army of possessed ass-kickers laying the smack down night after night after night. People are gonna hate playing the Bulls this year.

why take pride in being a slave to one franchise, boast about how no matter how abusive your partner is you'll never leave.

Think for yourself god damnit. Or stop taking sports so freaking seriously.

if they let Lin walk, there will be a mass exodus of support to Brooklyn. unless you're a hardcore down-with-the-ship super fan. LOL

I can too but I'll honestly look the other way.

I was born in Manhattan and lived in Brooklyn for ten years before eventually moving to Maryland. I have been a Knick fan since I understood basketball. The only way I will stop being one if the Knicks cease to exist and then I simply won't care about the sport much.

I'm not from the US, so before I came here, I was a fan of the Lakers, Edmonton Oilers, I think the Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. It took me almost a decade to become a fan of the Miami teams, and only because I've spent so much time living here now. I can understand allegiance to the local team, but I can also understand changing allegiance.

Being a fan is about passion. As time goes by, your passion changes for certain things. I found I started rooting for the Miami teams more and more as time went by, so I started repping them. Changing allegiance isn't something you necessarily have to make a firm decision on and do suddenly. It can be a gradual thing too.

I got no problem with it. I know it's frowned upon, but if you can look at it as an outsider, it's easier to understand why it happens. PEACE.

BS. As a fan you have a choice on whether you support a team or not. If you feel that your team is rotten to its core you can decide to spend your time differently. To use a more appropriate analogy, if your wife kicks you in the balls every morning it's ok to divorce her and find a better partner.

Listen up, I'm a Warriors fan despite one of the worst FOs in sports for decades. If you even THINK about switching you're a freaking pansy.

I actually was very close to switching. Still kind of am. Something keeps me liking the liking the knicks even though I hate the players, owner, logo, and colors. At least I like the Nrts logo and colors. Their clothing is greatalso. Dont really care for their players, and dont know much about their owner.

I've always had a lot of respect for Knicks fans. Takes a lot to put up with Dolan and the past 10-12 years. Lord knows the Magic front office hasn't been the wisest. Bill Simmons should be ashamed for encouraging fans to be fairweather/bandwagoners.

Stay true, Knicks fans. Don't let me down.

IF I'm going to switch teams (which I never will), it certainly won't be the Nets.

Simmons is totally right about switching because of bad ownership. The owner totally represents the long term quality of a franchise, and if there is someone stupid, arrogant, greedy, or whatever at the top than it is going to cause pain and waste the time and money you invest in a team, unless you are lucky. You usually stick with it if there is only one local team, but if there are two it makes sense to stick with one which has a vision that you can respect.

The sad part of this is when NY fans get a second choice it is to the Billy King run team that gave up hopes of future competitiveness for, perhaps, slightly a above lottery level roster with no draft picks. If the Nets had just kept all of their assets they would have some nice lotto players to give fans something to hope for and a ton of capspace (space that could sign the same players they traded for and resigned, or other players).

Neither team is good right now. ATM the Knicks have a better roster, the Nets probably have a better owner, and both have been recently mismanaged and have bleak futures. Why switch...

I dont believe in switching, but It's easier to be a "die hard" or "long term" fan of certain team when they win all the time.

Screw that. A team is not a religious cult... the point of following a team is to get something out of it. If a team's not meeting your needs, whatever those may be, go find a new one.

Fair weather fans are the scum of the earth. Why not just bounce from team to team whoever is going to win? then you can always be a winner!

If you can't hang with your team during bad times, then you lose your fan card.

Are the Nets such a better alternative? What has Prokorov done in his ownership term that would make one want to trust their basketball fandom to him?

Brooklyn is essentially a dense suburb of Manhattan, with a completely different energy and feel.

Sports "loyalty" encourages poor or lazy management from teams, because they know you will support them regardless...
