Who knows? We'll find out when/if it happens. There's no need to crucify the guy at this point.

I'm not crucifying him at all - I'm saying I don't think this would happen in the first place. The requirement to convince a doctor that there is something wrong when his examinations suggest otherwise is just one flaw in the plan. Beyond that, there would be the loss of earnings, there would be the irreparable damage to his reputation, and there's the fact that despite his behavior of the last 8 months, I don't believe Dwight is unprofessional enough to pull something like that.

what loss of earning if he is hurt he is getting paid no matter what...

Lol Magic are getting there just desert its what they get for holding this guy hostage not just 1 off season but 2

And as a Laker fan im loving this now people will stop trying to trade this guy to the Lakers and instead we get to keep Bynum

If he wanted out of ORL this badly, WHY did he sign the opt-in ???

So this clown is threatening to sit out the entire season next year if he isn't traded?

He's making an absolute mockery of the league. Why anyone would still want this clown on our team is beyond me.

When will this madness end. Who would of thought that D12 would become public enemy number 1. I would live to see him traded to bottem feeder like the bobcats and watch him sulk.

This Dwight Howard saga shows you the power of the media. Posters on here say they hate Howard based on vapor. I challenge anyone to post a quote from Howard or an action he has taken that would justify him being condemned.

Every season it seems the NBA media is finding it profitable to demonize a player. They put out BS stories that are never verified or even come to fruition but the constant deluge tricks you easily swayed mopes to form an opinion on someone you don't know based upon stories by a group of incompetents at best and liars at worst.

PLEEEEASE...I'm not at all buying the back injury stuff! I know it was serious at the time, but he had surgery and I guaranTEE that if he were a BK Net by now he would be close to ready for the start of the year.

If this rumor holds any credence and turns out to be true, he will become my least favourite athlete of all time, and IMO one of the most hated people in sports history.

One can only hope. Houston needs to just overpay, and end the Dwightmare so the league can move on!

Don't ask questions. It is much easier to hate him.

People forget that the Magic have proven themselves to be an incompetent organization but somehow all the blame gets thrown at Howard when all signs point to him being true to his word(the ones he has actually spoken not the ones rumored to be his) and not wanting to leave Orlando.

You think that if he refuses to play when the team and their doctors believe he is healthy that they are going to pay him?

As for the "holding hostage" part - they entered into trade talks last year but didn't get a sufficient offer. He was the one who opted back into his deal in February when he could have just played out a couple of months in Orlando or elsewhere and then become a free agent. Orlando re-entered into talks this past few weeks and clearly still have yet to receive what they believe to be fair value. They owe him nothing more than that. It's not the Magic's responsibility to trade him to whichever team he wants to go to and accept crap in return.

I actually don't doubt that in an ideal world, he would like to stay in Orlando if they had any hope of doing something relevant in the NBA over the next few years...but as it stands now, he clearly wants to leave and is making things very difficult. The Magic brass is obviously not blameless, they have committed some awful atrocoties against competent management...but it still doesn't change how Dwight has in turn, responded to the situation.

Lol their Doctors dont matter just letting you know their doctors can say he is healthy all he wants his doctors will keep saying he is hurt. If lets say he is fully healthy in January he just needs to stall out the process past the trade dead line and the magic lose.

Yet its "unfair" that Howard will only sign an extension with only the Nets right and thats why the Magic cant get "Full Value" from him if they wanted "Full Value" they should traded him a year after he signed his 2nd contract now that he is an expiring contract HAHAHAHA get what you reap.

He's lucky he has gotten this far with his crappy fundamentals and now the lack of perspective. It's unfortunate that guys like Grant Hill lost out on HOF careers but this moron, who doesn't even care about winning, has gotten this far.

I don't understand your point. The poster I responded to said "you can't just make up an injury." Dwight is not making up an injury. He has an injury. A potentially serious injury at that. None of us know the timetable on his return.

If he tries to use it as trade leverage and sits out while healthy, well then that would obviously be a slimy tactic. But there's absolutely nothing to support that assumption other than knee-jerk reactions.

We know for a fact he's injured, and we know that he might have told someone he's prepared to sit out the season, but anything else is pure conjecture.

Even assuming the comment is accurate, we have no context, everyone here is just filling in the blanks based on the trade rumors. For all we know it went something like:

Source: Hey Dwight, how's your back doing?
Dwight: Oh you know, just taking it day by day. Rehab is always tough.
Source: Any timetable yet on your return?
Dwight: Unfortunately no, right now I'm just trying to get healthy.
Source: Have you thought about what would happen if you had to miss a full season?
Dwight: Aw, yeah man, that's always in the back of my mind. I try not to think about it and keep positive but I have to face the possibility. It would be devastating but I think I'm prepared for it.
