Shumpert has a long, long way to go before he can contribute to a winning team on the offensive end in the NBA. I love his defense, intensity, and swagger--but he's a Tony Allen, a role player.
I don't want to trash the kid, but to suggest that he showed anything remotely close to what Lin showed, would be, well, stupid. I'd honestly be surprised if he ever does.
What were you watching?
Shumpert deferred to the vets a lot as a rookie, offensively..He knew as a rookie, as to how that team was constructed, his job was to defend, hustle and facilitate rather than try to outshoot his team.. He has a lot of offensive skills to boot. Definitely a future 15-20 point scorer in this league.
Come on, Shumpert was good, and if he recovers fully from injury he'll be a good player. But his offensive struggles weren't because of "deferring," it's because his offensive skills aren't there yet.
