I think the Knicks own part of Twitter, realgm and a ton of social media sites so the fans hit refresh every 10 seconds up until tomorrow night.

Why match it now? To satisfy some message board dopes. Drag this out to the very last minute. Hopefully Morey will run out of options at PG right before we match.

You got a lot nerve showing face here after putting family business on the GB.

Guys - what am I missing here? From a pure business standpoint it seems like an obvious decision. You sign Lin and use his value to get something for him down the road.

For the next two years he's fairly priced at $5 and $ 5.2 million, with the tax comparable. No brainer here as his value as an international star clearly pays for itself and 5 mill for a starting PG is fine.

Year 3, if he's awesome and a top 3 player on the team you keep him, if not trade him. Even if he's slightly better than average, many teams will want his expiring contract on top of him being Lin, the international man of mystery. Can't ever see a reason to let him walk for nothing.

If he comes back and is having issues with the coach's style and his teammates then showcase him around the deadline in 6 months and trade him then. Again, no reason not to get value from him.

Screw Dolan's ego - there's always payback. Trade him later for the Knicks benefit, if it bothers you. Just don't let him walk for nothing.

Cause we're not women and don't make decisions based on emotions.

Knicks w/ Lin > Kincks w/out Lin. Even if you feel like he's backstabbed us, you still match his contract. Even with the poison pill, it's tradable. You don't let an asset like that go for nothing cause you feel he double-crossed us by getting a larger offer.

Thanks for a logical response , however if he's not the player that we think he is his contract in the third year is not very tradeable . Also since Woodson became coach his role was severely diminished and his numbers dropped also so even though he may be better than Felton him at 3 years 25 mill is not the better option than 3 years 10 mill with almost the same production . Jeremy "Linsanity" died when Dantoni resigned and Melo was back from injury

This is the best idea ever. And bring Tebow on as a guest commentator to build the hype.

We're all assuming Lin is going to be tradeable but that remains to be seen. Either he's playing well and we want to keep him, or some team will trade for a 15 mil/yr for a 11/4 point guard? What happens if he regresses this season? Lin could lose value, as we've already seen how he plays with Carmelo and Amare. What's he going to do with less PT now that we have Kidd and Felton. What happens when Shump comes back and minutes at the SG spot shrink? Would Lin really wrestle PT away from Felton and Kidd. It's no guarantee in my book that those guys don't out play him. Assets can become liabilities pretty quickly, especially if the main factor is not the player himself, but his contract. Just look at Landry Fields.

What is with Zeke's creepy voice anyway?

Somewhere between feminine and serial killer.

not my fault a site admin decided to compare Jeremy Lin to 9/11. Since it's ok to compare terrorism to basketball, I guess whatever I say is fair game.

I still find it shocking that the Knicks are most likely not matching. Like a bad dream.
Just **** match and end this already. It doesn't hurt the team at all. Our cap station is screwed over the next 3 years no matter what.

There is really no logical reason to not match. People can talk money money money...but if Lin is good, he'll easily make up for the losses. And if he's not that good? You can trade him before year 3!

It's clear that there are plenty of non basketball reasons about this.

The whole Felton being at Dolan's 4th of July BBQ does add an odd ambiguity to the situation, though. If Felton knew he was a Knick on the 4th of July, does that mean the Knicks had already planned on not matching Lin? OR, was the plan all along to get Felton, Lin, and Kidd, but that changed once Houston and Lin "hurt" Dolan's feelings? Or it could be something else.

But either way, IF Felton knew he was a Knick on July 4th, and IF the Knicks were planning on matching Jeremy Lin before the offer changed from what we thought, then there have to be plenty of non basketball reasons behind this, since it means that at that time, the Knicks were planning on having both Felton and Lin. Also, perhaps non money reasons, too, considering the age and salary of the players we are currently paying in year 3.

Because he never compared jeremy lin to 9/11 and even if he did would it have been against the rules to state his opinion respectfully? No.
