Uncharacteristically (but in a good way) the Yankees are extending that lead to near double digits over second place. With a veteran team, the sooner they clinch...the better off they are in terms of giving the vets a little time off in between the close of the season so they can beat the opening round opponent with an ugly stick.

First place is more important now than ever. You dont have to play a 1 game playoff for the wild card.
