defjux21 wrote:This was already discussed. Why would Lin try to renegotiate Houston's offer sheet when Houston was the ONLY team to even give him an offer? It's not like there was a bidding war going on for Lin. He had no leverage to renegotiate at all. There really wasn't that much of a market for him since other GM's figured the Knicks would indeed match any offer. Morey just decided to call the bluff and thus throw a wrench in the Knicks' plans.

Morey CANT change the offer sheet WITHOUT LIN'S CONSENT. SEE LIN knew it was happening and LIN could have easily INFORMED the knicks it was happening BUT HE DID NOT. The team might have made different offers to camby, kidd, novak, IF they had known LIN was getting his offer sheet changed.

It has to be negotiated. Probably the reason the offer sheet was delayed two days while they discussed it. I would bet LIN's handlers were looking for the whole enchilada 4 yrs 40 mil (5,5,15,15) and morey was like no way.

It must have been already too late by then. The Knicks were informed of Lin's initial offer sheet, took that as gospel, used that as the baseline, and consequently rushed to get all free agent signings / S&T's done while still under the apron. They had to wait on Lin since they just won EB rights on him and would have to sign him last since they're allowed to now go over the cap to retain him. That's why it was tricky. Lin's consent has little bearing. If you had a contract offer for a certain value and then have it suddenly increased, while being your only offer, it makes sense that you would naturally consent, right? These players are contractors, not employees of the Knicks.

Have to disagree with you there. MSG will be a morgue. There will be very little excitement at the Garden -- more like abject depression. And Lin coming back to torch us will just be another swift kick in the pants.

Melo and Felton will get abused by the fans, I'm telling you.

and if they win, all will be forgotten, there will be plenty of excitement.

Depends on what you mean by "win." If we are a 50-win team there won't be plenty of excitement. It'll just be another year of non-title-contention and underperforming. If we win 60...sure.

That's actually a great deal. They don't give a damn about money, they get one of the best rebounders in their league, it doesn't kill their cap space because they don't have any, and they have a $12 mil expiring next year to use in a deal. Dolan should take note. The Nets make yet another good move.

If the Knicks match, we should know sometime in the evening during prime time. The Knicks are all about attention.

If it gets passed 11:00pm, I would be extrmely worried.

I wish you were a casino, KG, because I'd like to lay money on several of the props you just established.

MSG Will Be A Morgue: +200 - Put me down for $200

There Will Be Very Little Excitement At The Garden: +300 - Put me down for $500

Lin Will Come Back To Torch Us: -300 - Wouldn't touch this with a 10 ft pole

I'm pretty confident in my predictions about Knick fan mob mentality. This will blow up in Melo's face first, and Felton's second. It will get ugly.

... This fourth-year option for Felton is another bad sign. Looks more like desperation to lock him in. Why give him an option at that older age?

I'm close to convinced -- on gut and some educated guesses -- that if we do match, it will represent a reversal of a decision to let him go. Way too much smoke to think that there is no fire. We must have decided to walk away from Lin and we'll see if they follow through on that or change course.

Did I miss anything important? Or does everyone still think the sky is falling and we are not matching?

It's about $8 million per year.

Want to hear about some actual max contracts? Joe Johnson is one. Amar'e is another.

you're comparing years of playing in the nba to 25 games.

KG where I think you are wrong is that you are overvalueing lin impact on this team. Can he be good...sure. Will he be a better player than Felton over the next 3 years...you can make a case for that as well. But Lin and Felton are secondary pieces. This chances at a championship are on Melo and Amare. Amare is the big piece to return to form. We have a lot of depth this year. Right now we have 3 capable PG's on the roster (Felton, Kidd, Pablo)...so we are better at PG this year than going into the playoffs. We have a better bench.

We are a better team than last year. But Lin was going to be a secondary piece...could he be a good secondary piece sure, but this isn't the end all be all here.

People see that magical 7 game run and only that.

Its like they do not realize that with LIN in the lineup the knicks were only 10-9 before Woodson took over. they ended up 16-10 before LIN shut it down for the season.

The woodson led knicks with bibby/davis running the point ended the season 12-5.

I submit that Woodson's impact was much more than important than LIN's impact.

I submit that Lin has a hard time guarding his position (PG). See how many games shump got switched on to the opposing guards PG if the PG was the better of the guards on the team.

I submit that as someone else pointed out Collison's season ending run his rookie year was as good as LIN's 20 game run where collison averaged 18 ppg, 8 assists, on 51% shooting and 48% 3pt fg . But he never had the hoopla that LIN is getting.

It will be extremely hard for LIN to live up to these crazy expectations Lin fans have. They think he will a 20 plus ppg a game, 10 assist a game on 50% shooting type of PG.

Because if he is just a 15ppg 7 assist PG, he really is not all that much better than felton who is getting paid less than half he is.

There really is no linsanity without shumpert being able to guard PGs and Novak shooting a crazy 46% from 3 land.

That's what Lin makes over 3 years! LOL

Too much for Kardashian.

Wake up Dolan. If Humphries is worth $24M (and more because I'm sure Nets are into the tax), then Lin is worth $25M.

this is billy king stroking humphries' ego for throwing him in every trade possible to get dwight. Also, Billy King doesn't want to get on Dan Fegan's bad side and not get Dwight.

Comparing a guy worth $8 million to guys not worth anywhere close to their contracts.

I don't think Lin makes THAT big a difference from Felton/Kidd.

Cosign. Still think we should match though.

You've been convinced of things before that didn't happen at all how your guesses were suggesting...wait and see what happens and if Lin is matched don't blame management for something they DIDN'T DO.
