And now for the big story of the day: Jeremy Lin. The Knicks will announce a decision this evening regarding the decision on the offer sheet Lin signed with the Rockets. Though reports have indicated the team will pass, internally there has been no final decision made. There are too many factors outside of basketball that come into play in regards to Lin and all of these need to be considered.

Sounds to me like in terms of basketball, they don't want him back; like if they do bring him back it's because of his fan appeal.

Then they're idiots.

That's what I got from it...but that's crazy to me.

Fact is Woodson can care less about Lin's game.

I wonder how Woodson supporters will feel about the extension if it costs us Lin.

Woodson gave the lin the starting nod before the offer sheet, so im sure they believe in his basketball abilities.

And i wish this forum would talk more about basketball as it pertain to Knicks, rather than indulging in character assassination of people, under the guise of if that person happens to be a Knick, it's talking about Knicks basketball.

"Melo is a scumbag" is not REALLY about the Knicks or basketball.

So long as (unfortunately) statements like that can fuel hundreds of pages of posts and is considered an acceptable, relevant part of the dialogue here, then I'm going to reply what I reply to too.

Deal?

I think "Melo is scumbag" is actually an important point to make about the Knicks. If he is, that's something that's going to cast a shadow over at least next 3 years. By the way, I don't think that's something KnicksGod ever said. I sure did though!

And no, we don't have a "deal."

No I did say that lol.

I have said a few times that Melo is not a malicious guy so scumbag is probably harsh -- but he's pretty stupid and/or selfish if he doesn't understand that he needs a guy like Lin to blossom and control the offense before the Knicks can win a title.

Is stupid and/or selfish make someone a scumbag? It's semantics I guess lol.

Let me put it this way: I'm glad he made those statements last night and I forgive him: But it's not about liking him or not -- I just don't really trust that Melo gets it. We'll see. Hope I'm wrong.

My mind is open but I've lost a hefty amount of faith in him; I had been giving him the benefit of the doubt in a big way because I'm eternally optimistic.

I'm not a Lin hater, but Novak does not = Lin. Novak is a one dimensional 'know what you're getting' guy.. Made more than he's probably worth, but was the best shooter in the league last year, so it's not too much $.

Lin had more great games than not, however he looked like a different player against teams like the Heat and the Celtics ( If I recall).. Which simply leads to questions of whether or not it's something that'll slowly become more often as the league recognizes him this year.. Or if he is capable of performing the way he did in playoff games... Neither of which should be a question when you're getting 15 in a year... Just as you can hype him up positively from the mystery of his potential, there are things that are cause for concern.... Which many simply don't want to accept bc they're too busy saying he'll bring us to a ring.

For those concerned with marketability, here's what MSG President Scott O'Neill said last season:

“When Linsanity hit, it was like nothing I have ever experienced this or any other business. There has never been anything like it. At one point, 45% of all Knicks merchandise sold in The Garden was connected to Jeremy. And that was after just two weeks. We saw a 2000% increase in our online video views. Our television ratings doubled. When compared against any other league-wide measurable, be it sales, page views, you name it, the gap between us and anyone else was unprecedented.”

I don't think Knicks brass are doubting Lin's off the court value that much.

Good advice. Maybe then I'll have better luck knowing exactly what you'd be posting today two days before you did.

Oh, wait...

You're actually a great poster when you talk about the Knicks. I wish you would do that.

This is true. The Knicks don't make as much from Lin merchandise as people think. But they also take a share of road revenues and Lin will fill road arenas. They can cut deals with foreign TV getting MSG Network feeds (though not quite sure how this revenue share works). It adds up.

There's also the corporate sponsorships. Coca-cola had chinese language court-side ads, which would be seen when games get carried overseas. MSG also picked up their first Taiwanese corporate sponsor from some tire company.

The way an opinion works is, someone believes something is the actual truth. And I do. Strongly.

And if it's Woodson's call, how does that reflect on Melo? Wasn't Melo's approval the reason we brought Woodson back?
