You mean this offseason or ever? They have to resolve the Diva Howard saga before signing players. Plus..why should they if the goal is to clear cap and rebuild?

I have a question, do we want to tank all the way to 2014? I ask this because there is the next LBJ coming and his name is Andrew Wiggins. He is the best talent out of high school wince LBJ and he will not start college until 2013. Its a chance we could take but he is what is considered the "NEXT" big thing.

He would probably play small forward in the NBA based on his current height of 6'7. He is a natural scorer more so than LBJ was at in high school. His passing skills needs to develop, but it is hard to tell how he would pass to others with elite skill because he is so far head and shoulders above everyone else.

With all that said there is a group of high schoolers that would be college freshmen in 2013 that most expert say are the "next wave" and it will be like the 2003 draft class.

To be realistic... The main goal for us the Magic fans, It's to get Dwight outta here bia trade. The better trade out there are: The Houston package+rounds picks for D12+fillers, and The Lakers duo of Bynum/Gasol for D12+fillers.

I'd pick the Houston deal. I go for rebuild mode [on] better than hungry vet that usually are eager to eat $$$.

After all that we could start shaping the roster. By for example trading JJ if we already have 3 SG in K-Mart, Lamb, Liggins.

I think it will be funny to see Dwight go to LA. He will go from being the first option to the 4th option. With Kobe, Nash and Pau he will be lucky to touch the ball other than on rebounds.

This from the guy who "wants to be the closer".
Gotta love Loyalty! Go Magic!

Gasol/Bynum or bust

exactly.

Then, flip Gasol for Lamb/Parson/pick and we're good.

No. Neither will sign long-term. Houston is the best bet, not L.A.

We need to stop focusing on getting the best players back and start focusing on young players/draft picks/cap relief. Clean the slate for Rob to make this his roster.

Fran does annoy me ... from all reports he was interested in coming over. For example - I remember people saying that he was questioning former NBA players about the league. Also Twadzic (sp?) was friends with Fran's coach and indications from the coach was that he wanted to come over.

I think at the end of it all it changed his mind because of his girlfriend (now wife).

Also, why would any free agent sign with this team right now? We don't even have a head coach.

cant wait to trade for Bynum, just to watch him leave in the offseason for nothing...i would rather sit dwight on the bench all season...no extension from Bynum should = NO DEAL

I wouldn't mind getting both Bynum and Gasol to have Pau flipped to a 3rd team like Minny or Houston for more youth.

I have to agree and think I would prefer a total rebuild. However, if the Lakers offer ends up better than Houston you have to take it and go for the rebuild through free agency over the draft because big men like Howard and Bynum are very hard to come by and we should know after waiting a decade to fill the spot once Shaq left.

But lets assume we do a total rebuild through the draft, I am sold on the 2014 draft class. I would attempt to get as many picks in the 2014 draft as possible. So if we are going to do a total rebuild I would do the following.

Trade with Houston and make sure we get their 2014 draft pick along with the Toronto Pick & Dallas's. I would not care how much salary they take back as in if we are targeting 2014 it really does not matter if we keep Hedo, Duhon, BBD or JRich.

Next I would assess the roster and see who I could move for a pick. I would see if the Bulls are willing to trade Hamilton & their 2014 pick for JJ. That would be a fair trade for both sides especially since the Bulls wants JJ and they just traded their sharpshooter in Korver.

I would just start trading off the roster a piece at a time for a 2014 pick. Because that draft is very very stacked with talent. Then go in to tank mode for two seasons.

Then you target 2015 for free agency and go after your PG & Center if we don't already have them.
(Age 30 in 2015) Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies – $15.8 million – Unrestricted
(Age 27 in 2015) DeAndre Jordan, L.A. Clippers – $11.4 million – Unrestricted
(Age 30 in 2015) LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Trail Blazers – $15.8 million – Unrestricted
(Age 29 in 2015) Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics – $12.9 million – Unrestricted
(Age 33 in 2015) Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs – $12.5 million – Unrestricted

The biggest problem you have with this situation is you are banking a ton of your teams future on uncertainty. SO the question is you want this scenario OR go with a sure thing possibly in Bynum and then try to go for Ellis in the summer of 2013.

One deal gives you the potential now. One deal gives you future potential that has more risk and more uncertainty.

I am sure this is why we have yet to pull the trigger. There is so many variables to doing either deal that it means you have to take a hard look.
My money is on Rob doing the deal with Houston, because that would keep his job much longer.
