There is definitely risk in the draft/prospects. I know everyone is high on OKC..but busts happen. I'm not sure how you can say Bynum is a risk and the draft is not.

because if you bust out in the draft, it costs you little. If you bust out with Bynum, it costs you the max. Grant Hill 2.0 is something no one wants here.

Bynum, minus his uncertain health, is really the only true back to the basket center in the league. He has been tutored by Jabbar for years and now he has a more refined game. He is in the position to go to a team he can call his own. One year with the Magic making him the center piece may be all it takes to get him long term. Also because of his still young age he could grow with Nicholson and any other young piece we put next to him. If we have a chance to get him and move out out long term contracts that puts us in the position to go after Ellis next summer and maybe even CP3.

Point being is we would be reloading versus rebuilding and it may be a better long term result.

It seems many magic fans forget how hard it has been to replace Shaq since he left. It took Howard until 2008 to actually be considered in Shaq's shoes. That is 12 years from the time Shaq left. I do not think Magic fans are prepared to last 12 more years for another future. SO you go and get the future now in Bynum and make him the team.

Props to you man. This is exactly why I have high hopes of us doing a Bynum package. It makes sense to trade an All-Star for an All-Star in the same position. Guards will always come and we have enough forwards. Centers are easily the hardest positions to fill.

i like bynum/nicholson duo down low. But I love the rooks/potential massive salary dump that houston could provide. My guess is that henny wants the rooks but alex and devos might just opt for bynum.

Umm.......That sounds like more than they would give us for dwight himself

Well if the Lakers are going to throw the farm at us for Dwight, then Houston is no longer in the running for Dwight. At that point Houston has to look themselves in the mirror and ask if the deal is worth it.

Otherwise, we can turn Gasol to OKC and maybe get Harden + Scrubs. Gasol would fit well on that OKC team and screw the Lakers at the same time.

Why on earth would Houston throw away young talent for Gasol, a player at the end of his career? Gasol is worth Lamb + maybe a first. Even that seems steep at this point.

Actually both routes just cost you time. You bust out in the draft, you wait a year. You bust out with Bynum, you get a top 3 pick. Isn't that what people want?

Maybe you don't remember but... Grant Hill "1.0" caught us Dwight Howard.

Let me know when another intelligent 7"1 17 year old with size, soft touch around the basket, and a legit back-to-the-basket game comes through the draft. Because it probably won't be for years.

I've been warning those in denial for years on here and elsewhere that he does not care to challenge himself by vaulting to the next level - even though it's been there for the taking. He cares way more about being around family, friends, people who speak his language, his culture, familiar location, etc. There's nothing wrong with that, but I'm just saying it's been obvious for quite some time. I'm glad he didn't come this year because he's not even that good in his last prime years and his heart obviously would not have been in it. At least it's over now... no way anybody wants this fool here after his next contract.

Come on... sure, his wife may want to stay home, but he's the money-maker... the multi-millionaire. He can go wherever he damn well pleases and his wife would likely follow and adjust. Basketball gave them the life they have, so if he truly wanted to challenge himself, he could and would have. Don't put this all on his wife. He doesn't have that fire to give up his comfort zone to play at the highest level.

Using the phrase "putting it on his wife" implies something negative happened. It's a negative for us that he didn't come here, but it's obviously a positive for him and his family if he stayed in Spain. Spain is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I don't blame them a bit for wanting to live there instead of Orlando, Florida. He's making a ton of money in his home country in his hometown where his wife and family are happy. If you want to blame him not wanting to give all that up on him being a pussy then fine. Whatever works for you.

What are you talking about. I already said there was nothing wrong with him picking family, location, culture over playing in the NBA... I was making a point that his basketball career is not even close to his highest priority, and that's why it was obvious he would not ever come here. People with drive/passion often give up a lot in life to further their careers... Fran is not one of those people. His desire peaked a long, long time ago. He reached the level where he wanted to be within his comfort zone and stayed there. He does not care enough to take his game to the next level.

BTW the very fact that the Lakers are now publicly seeking a meeting with Howard tells you how far advanced the talks are and that Bynum is probably getting moved. You do not have something like this get leaked and risk upsetting your roster like you did last year with the botched CP3 trade.

I imagine this is going to end up being our trading partner whether Magic fans like it or not.

Because JJ would not be part of the long term rebuilding in most people's minds and Magic fans would prefer to get something in return for him than have to resign him next summer to a bloated contract i.e. Jameer Nelson's deal.

JJ may actually be a nice piece next to Bynum if we got Bynum, but with our luck JJ ups his value too much like Anderson did and we lose him regardless.

Dave McMenamin ‏@mcten
Source familiar w/ the Lakers-Dwight situation tells me the dialogue is "ongoing" but right now the trade would be "very tough to pull off"

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is simply no way Houston is trading anything of value for Gasol.

The Gasol deal from last year was to make a run with Lowry/Nene/Gasol.

New year, new players, new plan.

Houston is willing to offer:

Toronto pick +

Pick One:
Jones
White
Lamb

+

Pick One:
Morris
Parsons
Motiejunas
Kmart

+

Pick One:
BBDavis
Jrich
Hedo
Duhon
QRich

For a rental of Dwight Howard. If you can beat that deal with LAL, LAC or whomever, then do it.
