There's plenty of interest in Lin around the league.

We couldn't match the contract then flip it for a crappy expiring contract and a first round pick if not more???

Unfortunately once he signed that offer sheet he could no longer be used in a S&T

Lin wasn't average last year. He played at an all-star level.

I think you are exaggerating. Chalmers shut him down.

Agreed. 3 years 25 million is not a contract that goes to a "great" player though. Didn't Kris Humphries just get 2 years 28 million?

Shyt on Hump but he averaged a double double.

With a "green light" to rebound next to Brook Lopez. Be consistent man. Humphries is a solid player, but barely getting a double double gets you 14 million a year in this league, thats my point. So how is 18 and 7 on 8 million a year a trash deal?

There are plenty of teams out there that would take that Houston contract because of how desperate they are for a point guard. You could easily stash Lin for a couple months and then trade him for at least an expiring deal and a future first rounder. Just look at what the Raptors gave up to get Lowry who is not as good as Lin.

IMO you do not give up an asset that won't cost you the tax money for two years. Lin will always be tradeable in some form or fashion.

If you are trading it for Rip Hamilton it's not an asset.

But you ask for a first round pick with Rip

Yes Linsanity is better than Portland Fatty, but NY Fatty is right on par with Linsanity. Cant use the DAntoni argument since both had their best production under DAntoni. Instead of complaining about what cant be undone...move forward. If there was asmuch angst between LIN and everyone else then this may make this team more cohesive.

At best, the dropoff won't be much. At worst, Lin continues to play like he did last year and Felton continues to play like he did last year. And that is a huge dropoff.

As Duetta put it earlier, Lin is a wildcard for us that could give us a shot at competing with the top teams. Felton will never be that.

exactly why not matching would be idiotic. if the knicks dont match it is not a business or basketball decision. it will be out of spite which makes no sense at all. if dolan is mad at lin and lin doesn't mind going to houston, then how is not matching him gonna get him back? it makes no sense.

For how many games again? During the peak of Linsanity he got shut down by Miami. I've never seen a PG so turnover prone.. Felton if he gets in shape is a better distributor and a better defender..

It was his first time playing against a defense Miami's caliber. He was essentially a rookie, as well.

Also, give up on Felton. We've seen him at his "best" and trust us...the numbers WERE deceiving.

if lin falls off in Houston everyone will be quick to say "i told you we were right to pass on him!" i wish we could have keept him but im happy with felton (if he can get into shape before training camp) a PG we know can make other players better, if he can bring amare back from 2 years ago hes a better defender then lin and more of a true PG

The final decision to match is Dolan's. Doesn't matter whether or not Lin handled everything properly. Dolan still needs to match.

That is true. But neither side appeared to have any interest in working something out. And Lin acting like the hot chick at the bar and the Knicks the putts following her around probably isn't something that makes the Knicks want him back..... Especially if they aren't totally sold on him... And especially if they'd be paying through the nose for him... And especially if they're the ones who gave him his shot.

I get Lin going after the money - that's fine. I also, all that considered, understand the Knicks not jumping to bring this kid back either.

That makes too much sense for this joke of an organization and half it's fans. :(

it makes sense but if teams were so interested in him, why didn't he visit anywhere else ? why were there no other offers besides a franchise already tied in with the asian market ?

Why visit a bunch of places when you already know where you are getting a great offer from? You think his agents never had contact with other teams' offices? Not everything that happens is made public for your consumption and not everything you are told is the truth....

Larry Brown wrote:I think the kid was the great. The system helped him be really great," Brown said of Lin. "It's a wonderful story. But I look at him as a terrific backup in the NBA. I may be wrong, I really want him to be successful but I think if you overpay him for the interest that he created that's not the best thing.

Exactly.

And I bet any other NBA personnel evaluator will tell you the exact same thing.

Simply the media and fans were overrating Lin.

And when an organization is making a decision about a player, they don't ask the media or the fans. They ask the professional scouts they pay.
Originated from the nethermost, currently however, our entire squadron is now hither.
