OT: Linsanity Hits Houston

Just curious what you guys think about the whole situation with Lin. My interest is in the traitor/wounded animal argument, but feel free to comment on whether he's worth the contract as well.

I think that it was a good move for Houston, as long as he is fully recovered from his injury.

It was interesting to see Melo flip flop on the issue.

If getting Lin helps them get and keep Dwight then it was a great move. However, it's contracts like this that cripple teams when given to the wrong players. Not sure Lin proved he is the real deal. I like the kid though. Just a risky gamble.

Don't think he's a traitor.

I don't understand Houston though. They had TWO good point guards who are better than Lin and they got rid of them both. Lowry was excellent, but had problems with McHale so his departure can be excused but the Rockets got little in return for him.

That left them with Dragic, and they let him walk for nothing, and decide not to sign him for basically the same amount of money they are giving Lin, only Dragic is on a more comfortable contract.

So now they got Lin, and even though that due to Daryl Morey shrewdness both Lin and Asik will count only as 8M against the cap in their final year, their owner is still going to have to pay Lin and Asik 30M in the last year of their contracts combined, not including potential luxury tax implications. I can't possibly imagine him being happy about paying 25M to a guy who played 25 games as a starter last year (and 25 overall), and 25M to a a bench player who has yet to play 15 minutes a game or average more than 3 points and 5 rebounds and can't make a basket.

I like Lin.

From what I saw of him in the games he played he displayed TRUE point guard skills. Doesn't pick up the ball when dribbling so his options always stay open, he can pass the ball very well, and he can also shoot and weave into the lane. I would take the gamble on him. He isn't too short, and has decent quickness.

As simple as it is, not many PG's have the mental skill to keep the dribble going until they know they can get a high percentage basket. I think Lin has it.

Puzzling thing is why did all these basketball eyes, not see it until so late!? Something weird happened there, that hasn't been answered. I would love to read his story and here the opinions of why he moved around in the beginings. I guess he just never was given playing time and opportunity, and when he got is one shot he was ready for it.

Feels a bit like the Wesley Matthews situation. NYK loved him as the overachiever who came out of nowhere but paying him market value ruins that whole storyline.

Wesley Matthews situation all over again, as the post above me said. Houston is overpaying and Knicks just dont want that contract. They were stupid to let Lin go and test the market value if they really wanted him so bad. They should have offered him a contract and this wouldn't have happened

In the long run does it matter? Knicks are still going to implode regardless and houston still isn't good enough not make the playoffs

I'm interested to see what Lin will do in a full season...... The problem is, the Rockets are going to suck, unless they pull off a trade with Orlando, and even then, they will be so depleted they are not going to be good anyway.......

If the Rockets are a bust, how much of that will be pinned on Lin, fairly or unfairly?

The Knicks are making some weird moves, but they have to make those moves, they have a short window in which they can compete for a championship with their current roster, so the have to add whatever they can to cpmpete with Miami, Boston and Chicago....... But it ain't going to work......

One of the many problems with the Knicks is the illusion they have that they can compete for a championship with this roster. They can't. The pieces just don't fit and not good enough.

I dont understand Lin. He wants to be a Knick but has a poison pill provision in year 3 to make it basically impossible. You than have Humphries getting paid twice as much as he should be getting. These owners are idiots to pay marginal players so much money. The Jazz only have one over paid player right now and thats Big Al who should be earning 8-9 mil a year and not 14 mil a year.
