so they're gonna get back at him by.... letting him go for nothing to a place he probably wouldn't mind playing? that makes no sense. if you're upset at lin match the deal and trade his ass somewhere he doesn't want to go, like cold ass toronto so he can play with fields

in all seriousness it doesn't make sense to not match. even if he plays poorly teams will still be willing to take him on for marketing alone. we could at least get back a pick and a scrub.

You're both right. It's not about money and it doesn't make sense.

Anyone know where I can watch the conference or whatever where they will discuss the bad news?

well if he plays poorly he won't be marketable.. he'd be no different than Yi Jianlian. But he's shown enough promise in 1/3 of the season that its worth taking the gamble on, especially with this team being in the three year win now mode. Most of us feel it won't really be a gamble, worst case scenerio is he turns out to be just an average point guard.

I don't get it either, its equivalent to when you piss off your girl, and she gives you the silent treatment, doesn't respond to your texts/calls. Its a bitch move by the Knicks.

it makes no sense that they'd make the fans wait, if it was a foregone conclusion that lin wasn't return. You would think they'd be ready for the aftershocks.

Isiah Thomas to Dolan "This is what I want you to say why the Knicks management decided not to match Lin", Dolan to Grunwald "This is what I want you to say why the Knicks management decided not to match Lin", Grunwald to media "This is why we decided not to match Lin"

You never know, there could be negotiations going on with Lin's agent, Knicks could be insistent that Lin accepts a backup role, Lin's agent might be insistent that he has the opportunity to start--maybe Lin's camp blinks. ...just hoping.

James Dolan letting Jeremy Lin walk for nothing, some might say he is "Linsane".

I'm trying to understand what the reason is for anyone supporting this decision at all. The only one who should be supporting not signing Lin is Dolan's accountant. Nobody else.

The Knicks are capped out for the next 3 years regardless. The only thing this does is save Dolan money. It has no impact on anything else whatsoever. We can't sign anyone with the money we save. Not really understanding how letting a potential star leave for nothing to save a year's worth of luxury tax payments is a "smart" business decision. This is in no way comparable to Jerome James or any other long-term cap destroying contract. So there's no "insanity" involved in this process. The Knicks are letting a talent slip away for what amounts to Dolan not wanting to pay.
