For Indy Williams would be a good fit at PF next to Hibbert. West is declining so Pacers need to think long term. You can sign a proper SG and move George to his real SF position. I don't think you become much worse immediately and will benefit long term.
Wolves need some immediate improvement to keep Love happy. So adding a good vet SF improves their perimeter play and helps Kahn save face after making so much noise this summer and having so little to show for it.

I doubt Indiana would even consider that trade. The Pacers' front office seems to be determined to make a run at the Heat in the ECF. They aren't focusing on the future, they want to be contenders right now. Thebtrade you mentioned doesn't help us become contenders, if anything it removes us from contention. It would be a good long term move, but that's not what the Pacers are looking for.

U R correct about everything, but imagine if we had pulled off a trade like this sooner, and freed up another 10 million before free agency. We could've had Dwill, Wes, and multiple other options to bid on, all for Granger.

It's fair value-wise, but ultimately Granger cannot be moved because he is the leader of a contending team. Depending on the Pacers upcoming season, I'd be interested in approaching this deal around the deadline, seeing how West is expiring, and George is ripe to play the three. It's the perfect scenario really.

As said above, West isn't exactly declining. Maybe in a few years you could make a case that he wasn't what he used to be, but he was a core part of the Pacers' success last season. I'd much rather have David West over Derrick Williams at this point in their careers. Williams has lost weight over the offseason, and is more of a 3 than a 4 now. If we were to do this, West would still remain our starter, Willaims would be our 3, and George would remain as the 2 guard.

Biggest problem going into next off season is that the Pacers only have a 50 million dollar payroll with West UFA, Hansbrough RFA, and there will be a likely big need to replace Augustin with a draft choice at PG, and maybe another PF/C depending on who gets brought back between West, Hansbrough, etc.

That being said, West's resigning WILL depend on the salary cap because he only signed a two year deal. The only contract the Pacers can offer is a one year 12 million dollar deal in an effort to obtain his bird rights and go over the cap. They can't do much else.

Indiana Pacers Offseason Moves & Analysis

By Chris Bernucca
July 13, 2012 at 4:30 PM

UNDER CONTRACT: F Danny Granger, C Roy Hibbert, F David West, G George Hill, F Tyler Hansbrough, G-F Paul George, F Gerald Green, C Ian Mahinmi, G D.J. Augustin, G Lance Stephenson, F Jeff Pendergraph

DRAFT PICKS: F Miles Plumlee, G Orlando Johnson

FREE AGENTS: G A.J. Price, F Louis Amundson, G Leandro Barbosa, C Kyrylo Fesenko

MOVES: The Pacers had two of the more desirable restricted free agents and retained them both – at considerable cost and with decidedly different strategies. Indiana was very aggressive on George Hill, refusing to let him get to the open market by offering a five-year, $40 million deal considered a bit above market value. The Pacers chose to let the market be established for Roy Hibbert, and Portland offered him the maximum $58 million over four years, giving Indiana a tough decision. After remaining remarkably quiet for several days, the Pacers finally went public with their decision to match Portland’s offer, which the Blazers rescinded. Indiana also cleared the point guard position for Hill – a third guard four months ago – by trading Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones to Dallas for signed-and-traded Ian Mahinmi, who will get $16 million over four years to back up Hibbert. Collison’s backup minutes will go to D.J. Augustin, who signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract. THe Pacers also added Gerald Green – who had a wonderful comeback with the Nets last season – to a three-year, $10 million deal.

TO-DO LIST: Last season, Hill and Hibbert cost Indiana less than $7 million. The first year of their new contracts will cost more than $20 million. That is why they will not aggressively pursue Leandro Barbosa and allow his $7 million to come off their cap. Louis Amundson can (and should) be retained on the cheap. Indiana is still looking for a shooter, with Michael Redd as a possibility. Augustin’s presence means Lance Stephenson will not get a chance to be a backup.

PROJECTION: Until the Nets establish who and what they are and the Bulls get back Derrick Rose, this is perhaps the second-best team in the Eastern Conference. Right now, the Pacers don’t quite have enough to overtake Miami, but they would have taken a huge step backward had they allowed Hibbert to leave.

note that the author is totally wrong about Augustin keeping Stephenson from being a backup. Lance is getting a shot at the backup two spot, not the one spot. he can pass like a one but he needs to spend some time with Roy's psychologist because he lets little set backs get to him. not having him be the primary play maker will probably help that as he'll be able to be the slasher he is without having to be as concerned with what the others are doing. however, on defense he will need to see a bigger picture.
