I don't hate any player (unless his name was A-Rod) but the higher ups, I'm never a fan of, At any job in any organization.
I find it amazing how we can't win anything. Can't win playoff games, can't win trades, etc...I think this organization does this sh*t on purpose. There's no way a sane team with unlimited resources goes 12+ years with out a series win.
So uhm...**** The Higher ups cause their Miserable performances makes us miserable...

The real bottom line is-----we gave up an extremely valuable asset and have zero to show for it.
This is nothing like the Melo trade. Even if you thought we gave up too much---at least we received SOMETHING in return. Yes? But allowing Lin to walk and receiving absolutely nothing in return is beyond ignorant. Why Dolan, why?

Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

That was pretty much all Novak's lawyer. The Knicks were just along for the ride.
Now we get to enjoy 4 years of Novak without Lin.

Listen---we all "get over things." You've all had, I'm quite sure---bad things happen to you. Like a breakup with a gf. Like a biz loss. Or a lost job you loved. And you always recover eventually, right?
And we will recover from this, too.
BUT with that said, I'm heartbroken at the moment. Stunned and deeply saddened.
Maybe I don't understand everything about the CBA---the Arenas rule, the stretch provision, etc. (In fact I really don't understand much about it!). BUT, there must have been SOME WAY to keep Lin for at least a yr or two then trade him for assets. Now with Dolan's dumbass-shortsightedness we have absolutely nothing in return for a lost treasure.
Dolan, I do NOT understand you at all.

Looks like we were wrong, Doc, GONYK, and everyone else who thought we'd match.
Only people I blame are Dolan/Grunwald (don't think Grunwald acted w/out Dolan's approval) and Lin a little. Don't want to get into it, really, so I'll just leave it at that.

I feel worse more than anything because I really believed Knicks were heading in right direction coming into offseason. Now I feel like a fool for being naive. We have no future with Dolan. Literally. We never keep any of our young talent.
Dolan to top it all off never mans up to what he does. Never faces questioning. He just goes and hides in his gilded tower.

He really is unaccountable to the public. Even when Cuban screws up like he has lately at least Dallas has an owner they can relate to for better or worse. We have a gnome who slinks away from the controversy he causes. Dolan is just so distasteful. For lack of a better word, he's just icky.

Enjoy the Karma!
Yes, its a defining moment. Only the dimwits think this only equals an exodus of Lin fans. A team getting this far into a rebuild settling on Felton as starting PG and letting Lin walk is the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back for many people who don't like being taken for granted.
It is a huge black hole of bad karma the franchise won't easily recover from. If the team fails to advance far into the playoffs now, the blowback on the remaining players like Melo and Stat will be gruesome. I don't look forward to it, but I know most of the clowns who've been trolling this board for two weeks will be the same mob calling for the heads of Knicks players.
That's a key point I think - I mean, we've been trying to build a team since Layden, and we finally have some pieces...and we let our 23-year-old starting point guard go because Dolan is annoyed at him.
I see stuff like "all will be forgotten if we start out 7-3"...it will be temporarily forgotten by some people. Then, when the reality of this team's low ceiling comes crashing home...probably in 2 years because after the first year people will still be like "hey, they're learning to play together and they did...pretty good!" or something...the backlash will be like what happened when we realized what Isiah Thomas was doing to the franchise.
Speaking of low ceiling, that's where Lin could have come in...he was a wildcard, as thebuzzardman said. He offered hope, and not based on nothing. He came into a starting role with a level of domination almost no one has ever done. Not a sure thing but...come on...you can never throw something like that away without seeing it out. Especially when you paid Eddy Curry that money not too long ago.

Yes Mr. Paco, sadly we were wrong. I was very wrong. I really could not fathom Dolan doing this. I really thought he would match at the eleventh hr. But he didn't, so I admit my prediction was flat-out incorrect. It hurts. I lost, the fans lost and the team lost.
I haven't changed my Sig yet, because I don't wanna pretend I didn't make this prediction. I did make it and now I don't wanna run away from it.

Re: OFFICIAL:I **** HATE DOLAN, THIS ORG, MELO, JR, ETC THRE
I'm not a Knicks fan and this move still pisses me off. I need to vent...
Lin provided sports fans with one of the most memorable and magical stretches in not only NBA history, but all of sports history. He captivated a nation and an entire race of humanity with his story of perseverance, opportunity, and success, and made the Garden crackle with electric roars from the crowd. And now the Knicks just let him go because... because... of Dolan's ego? The $15m final year is almost, if not completely negated by the amount of tickets/merchandise sales having Lin would bring. If worst came to worst, you could always find a team that would trade for him and get yourself out of that situation. Now you're left with Kidd's corpse and Felton's lardass. Retaining Lin was probably the only chance the Knicks had at winning the East.
Lin hasn't been an angel throughout all this, but, in my opinion, he has done nothing bad enough to deserve not getting matched. Now, he'll probably go on to average a slightly above respectable statline with the Rockets, toying with a few All-Star berths while his name is still hot, only to reach a low of Linsanity in the 3rd year of his contract. Then, he'll be traded or sign with some other team that is distinctly not the Knicks, and who doesn't play in a place called Madison Square Garden, eventually fizzling out and becoming a passing statement of memory brought up during broadcasts when his team is playing. Something like, "Here's Lin at the line. My, it seems like only yesterday this kid was the biggest name in sports. Misses the first. He's still trying to get his feet under him in this new Kings offense, but there's still a chance he'll figure it all out and regain something close to his New York form."
Linsanity was **** MAGIC. I remember cheering like an idiot when he was going nuts against the Lakers, taking on the challenge of Kobe and the twin towers. I know I wasn't the only one, either. As hard as Lin or the fans may try, you can't replicate that magic. It was perfect: New York City, the soft, glowing lights of the Garden... it all seemed to just fit so perfectly together. Everyone knew they were watching something special. Now it's off to the legendary Toyota Center, and those ugly uniforms and court, on a team that won't make the playoffs once during his 3 year deal. What a goddamn shame.

Re: OFFICIAL:I **** HATE DOLAN, THIS ORG, MELO, JR, ETC THRE
I wish there was an ultra rich basketball savvy fan who came to Dolan with an offer he couldn't refuse. Then we can actually rebuild management from the ground up. I mean what do these guys talk about in their meetings right now? Do they not realize that losing Lin was a blow to the franchise? Are they not going to address their decision to the public? Woodson talks about accountability to our players, but where is this accountability with upper management? Why do they make these moves and why do they think it's a good idea?
I guess what I want is just some **** answers. I have been through the horror of Scott Layden, the embarassment of Isiah, and supported Walsh who gave this franchise hope only to then to see him leave. For a while I was really believing that Grunwald was someone who would put up where Walsh left off and lead this team to becoming contenders but all I am seeing is the same inept decision making as before.
I didn't expect Lin to turn into a superstar but you know what? He was OUR star. He brought excitement that I haven't experienced since '99 and I wanted to continue that going into next season. I wanted to watch Lin and Shumpert grow with our veterans and help us get to the next level. Now I have little faith in what management does because since they are not upfront about anything, how can I know what direction they are going?
Right now we're essentially stuck with this team that has the potential to improve much as very low. Sure we will have a draft pick next season but even then I am not excited because who is to say he will even grow with this team. I want to get attached to Shumpert but like all of our other young players, we let them go at the first opportunity to get back mediocre talent. The NBA today is littered with young and talented players and unless you can obtain one of these guys, your team will struggle. What will happen if Melo, STAT, or Chandler are hurt for a long period of time? Who we can depend on to breathe life into the team? Who can we say, just give this guy time and see what he can do?
With all of this said, I will remain a fan because I am as stubborn as an ox. My interest level is pretty low right now but I will continue to watch this team and support them. But it's difficult to support something that you know will disappoint you every year. As a fan, you want hope. We lost some of it yesterday and I am afraid I don't see much of it on the horizon.
This will be a long offseason...

Clyde_Style wrote:The Lamma wrote:Clyde, I am with you 100% brother. This move allowing Lin to walk is unspeakably disappointing to me. The kind of move where I "wish" I could say "Forget it, I'm done." I can't and won't do that, but whatever.
The way our team is constructed, we have some really nice pieces. Melo, Chandler... Amare is flawed but if he's maximized he can do some things. I think we can make a little noise but I don't think we have enough. Since we have little to no flexibility with our cap situation, what we need to add in order to compete, are guys that can grow; become better than what they are now. Lin was one of those guys. What he did in those few games showed not only that he has that potential, he also was already really nice piece to the overall puzzle.
Point guard has been a problem. In some regard, we addressed that with our signings, but all come with big question marks. Kidd, age. Felton, desire. Prigioni, a complete question mark in terms of what he can do in the NBA. The three of them together, ok, not bad. But with Lin we knew exactly what we had.
Not a perfect player, but a wonderful skill set, one which we needed. Factoring in his very young age, and the type of person he is (smart, and dedicated) he was/is likely to improve and smooth out the rougher aspects of his game.
The fact that we just let him go with nothing in return on top of everything makes it even worse. If we weren't going to pay him down the road, at least match the contract then move it later on when we the contract becomes tradeable and get at least 1 first round pick, and possibly 2, along with an expiring contract so we can then at least have the hope of adding those players which can blossom later, as mentioned before. With all the majority of the big contracts we have up in three years, if we end up breaking it down, what we'll need mostly are good draft picks. That opportunity was wasted.
All of that is out the window, and I'm thoroughly disgusted as a Knicks fan. One of the worst days ever as a fan.
What is just as mind boggling as the Knicks going with Felton is how many "fans" believe Lin is not even that good a player. I won't even go into it. There are more stupid people walking this Earth than I was willing to once believe.
It's denial. They don't want to believe that they are wasting money on a team that hates its own fans, and that it continues to make the same mistake over and over again.
But hey, if you want big named 40 year olds, it doesn't get much better than the Knicks!

I liked getting Camby as he can still impact a game. But I supported Kidd as a backup and teacher for Lin, nothing more. But Felton? Ugh.
