Dream
Why are you asking this on a Houston forum?
- sorry, that comes off as kind of dickish. Not my intent. For me and for many Houston fans you're asking us to second guess the man who is probably the most beloved sports figure in this city's history. I can't do revisionist history like that. I stick with the pick and enjoy the memories.

Re: 84 draft
put Jordan on the teams Olajuwon had and put Dream on the teams that Jordan had and I think Dream would have 6 titles to Michael's 2.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Re: 84 draft
Most of us would choose Hakeem and not think twice about it.
People can sit here today and say we missed out on the GOAT, but you have to remember how much legacies are shaped by circumstance. If we had taken Jordan #1, Hakeem could very well have won more titles with Clyde and the Blazers than MJ would have here with us. Then we would probably be kicking ourselves today for not choosing Hakeem.
So instead I’ll just be happy with all the memories Hakeem gave us and all the heart he put into being a Rocket and bringing us our two titles. I love the Dream and wouldn’t wish for our franchise to be represented by anyone else.

Re: 84 draft
2012 post.
Insult or Lock
Edit:
I'll revise my answer to go with Mr. E's, but this is a seriously stupid thread.
Jordan was a slightly better player, but it was his TEAMS that won 6 championships, not him. In the Bulls' second run, Rodman was quite possibly the best player on the team.
I'd still take Hakeem any day. He didn't turn the game into a big marketing tool, I completely agree with Texasholdem on the switching thing, and most importantly he's a great guy instead of a huge ****.

Re: 84 draft
so you're telling me even you knew Michael Jordan would be the greatest basketball ever in 1984 you still wont draft him with the number one overall pick?

Re: 84 draft
I would still just draft Olajuwon... trade Sampson to Portland/Chicago draft Jordan 2nd/3rd
Simple
Also as said before Jordan did have better teams... Olajuwon on the Blazers with Clyde o.O!

The 84 pick was fine what should have happened was a trade of Sampson for blazers #2 pick and Drexler! You could have drafted Hakeem and Jordan added to McRae (should have been Drexler anyway) and Drexler. Put a shooter with them and titles all their career!

Re: 84 draft
I'd rather have Olajuwon, Barkley (taken 5th in 1984) and Drexler from the start.
Jordan's ego wouldn't have let Akeem and Clyde turn into superstars.

Re: 84 draft
*reads chart*
The 2008 All NBA team is...(as per that graph...)
Chris Paul
Josh Childress
LeBron James
Kevin Garnett &
Jeff Foster
Well...it's colorful, anyways.

Re: 84 draft
Maybe Olympiakos used this statistical analysis when they were working out which NBA player to headhunt?
I can imagine them in their war-room...one guy demanding they get Kobe, the other putting up a chart, and slapping his finger on the spot marked 'SG'
'Josh Childress...best SG in the world. Now all we have to do is convince Jeff Foster to come over and we'll be set...'

Re: 84 draft
Someones been eating well...
A guy at a bar asked me if I give Dennis Rodman a max contract(in his prime if he played today)
I said yes, he thought that was a horrible decision.
According to that chart looks good enough to me to warrant a max.
Am I in the minority?

Depends on who else is on that team with Rodman.
