I'm not sure if it's racism, but I do believe that Lin will never be a part of the NBA fraternity, that to some extent will always be underestimated as a basketball player, and many will look for him to fail. It's ironic, but the team that Linsanity was bestowed upon became one of his non-believers and is now part of the Jeremy Lin narrative.

you have to do it for more than 25 games.

Lin is not tall, is not an athletic freak, is not overly fast (quick, agile but not fast), and his numbers did not hold up even over the course of him being a starter.

Look at drew brees. He was a good QB at SD for a couple of seasons but they were not sure he was elite so they drafted phillip rivers. Reason drew was not the ideal.

there is a reason he goes to GSW and doesnt play, goes to the rockets and doesnt play, almost got cut here? Did you see those early games he played during the blowouts. Did you see isiah thomas picking his pocket left and right?

Chalmers and cole giving him the bidness?

25 games with some serious holes in his game (including his D, his 3pt shot, his handle as noted above).

And people felt the knicks should have paid basically 40 mil plus for a possibly elite player, possibly good player, possibly average player. No one knows where he fits but that was alot of money to commit to on a belief.

I pose a question:

Lin 6'3, 200 18 ppg, 7.7 ass, 46%, 33% 3pt

or

Kyrie Irving 6'2, 180 18 ppg, 5 ass, 47%, 40% 3pt

who would you prefer and why?

both only played essentially one year.

one had a spectacular run with a bunch of role players for the most part while the other lead his team back into the lottery with a bunch of role players.

if building a team right now and had to give them a contract of 15 mil who would you choose.

Reason I ask is I want to see how people think about such things.

So nobody is talking about it but aren't the Knicks going to have to give us a full explanation here?!?!

A week ago the head coach said we are absolutely matching and he's absolutely the starter ... so given that one of their top basketball people said this, and Grunwald said it was likely a couple of days ago at Kidd's presser ... I hope they are preparing a press conference or release.

We need to know what changed.

Don't hold your breath. At best, you'll probably get some bland corporate mumbling, but perhaps nothing at all.

If you guys are giving up or jumping ship over Jeremy Lin, sports is maybe not for you. Find another hobby or interest. Players get traded all the time. It will never ever change. There will be another Lin in the future and he too will likely be gone sooner or later. The chances of your favorite player staying with the same team his entire career are almost impossible. Front offices will always do things to disappoint some fans. That's life in sports. If you can't handle it, sports is not for you.

There's nothing I can learn that will excuse this. But I think they owe us an explanation. A big one.

Explanation: risk vs benefit was not there. Knicks were willing to spend 30 million on LIN but not 50 million on LIN.

They were willing to match the initial offer but the followup offer carried too much of a financial penalty.

What other explanation do you think they gonna give?

I'll always be a Knicks fan but this was a terrible move by a terrible owner. Just because I will always be a fan of the team, does not mean I have not lost complete faith in the ownership/management. We should be a top 4 team in the East this year so at least we will have good basketball for the next few years, but a championship is still out of grasp unless things break perfectly for us at some point or by some sort of dumb luck.

Relying on the front office to put us in a position to contend for real in the long run is futile. There's a reason why teams like the Lakers, Celtics, Heat, and Spurs are almost always in the mix. They are smart enough to know what the winning formula is and how to stick to it.

I notice a lot of posters with earlier join dates (2001-2007) have been the most vocal in terms of voicing their displeasure towards the organization. Seems like many of them are fed up and hardly post anymore - and honestly, I don't blame them. I hardly see them pop around here now. What I think some posters don't get is that it's not the Lin botching that set them off, but just years and years of management futility. Eventually it wears on you. Not trying to rattle anyone or anything - just an observation.

SI report reads like they were willing to spend approximately zero dollars. There wasn't a single offer from the Knicks.

Well they were clearly ready to match the offer but then the new terms angered them or whatever.

They probably would have matched the offer if it was the one they got originally. It was the change in terms.

I think I need to take a break from the Knicks for a while. I grew up watching the Knicks, but really started following them during the Stephon Marbury era, which was a stupid time to become a fan. Every year, it always seemed like I had hope, even if the Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph experiments turned out not to be so "formidable." But I realized today that there's something wrong with this team, and it's really not even the players' fault.

It's the culture. I love the Knicks, I really do. I loved rooting for them when we went through all the crap earlier before. I loved them even when we had Larry Brown, and our season burned and everyone was crapping on us. But I've never hated management as much as I do today.

I don't think we're ever going to build a winning organization. We don't have the owner to do that. We don't have a Mark Cuban. We have a fricking Dolan. We don't have a KG, as much as I dislike him. We don't even have an effing Lebron. We have a Carmelo Anthony, a talented player who will never be enough alone, but isn't playing like he's realized that. We have an Amare, lol. We have an owner today who let his pride dictate his decisions, even though it ended up costing him money and a better player. We have an owner who ran off Donnie Walsh, who was taking us in the right direction, and saved us from Isiah.

Over the years, I've always had hope every year, as stupid as it was, that the Knicks were going to be great. Hell, lol, I've even proposed a starting line-up with Renaldo Balkman and Mardy Collins in it once, and I was damn serious too. But right now, I finally realize, there's no hope with this fool Dolan at the helm. The Knicks will be exciting at times, but we're Atlanta. This is as far as we go. There's a difference between a San Antonio, a Boston, an LA and New York. There's a huge difference.

Return to New York Knicks
