If these Olympics are evident of anything it's that Kobe's about one more year away from just being done. A 2014 retirement doesn't sound so bad if you look at his play.

The fact that he looks toast against non NBA worthy teams while being on a super team is pretty depressing.

Any chance he's pacing himself, or coasting so he has something in the tank for Nash?

The Lakers have stayed in contact with the Cavaliers in hopes of orchestrating a three-way deal with the Magic, but little progress has been made and no deal is remotely close, according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal. Right now, the Cavs don't seem willing to part with any of their young players including Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson, Tyler Zeller, and Kyrie Irving.

lol Cavs aren't gonna do any deal that includes Irving.

They aren't going to trade Irving for anyone in the league except for maybe Durant.

Kobe wasn't exactly playing great in the 08 olympics until that final game as far as I remember.

Kobe is currently playing the exact same way as he did during the 08 Olympics (aside from 3 games). On this team he is a designated spot up shooter...But lets keep things in perspective, Kobe is far from the player he used to be and obtaining Howard makes the most sense going forward...

@BrianDwyerYNN: ESPN says Dion Waiters may be trade bait in trade where Cleveland gets Andrew Bynum & Lakers Dwight Howard. Waiters to Orlando.

I believe Waiters signed his contract therefore cannot be traded...

Kobe's strength is that he could start the game 3-11 and then go 11-18 or something. On team USA he's not going to get that many shots or minutes, so what we see is the 3-11 shooting games.

Brian Dwyer ‏@BrianDwyerYNN

@stewgo73 just relaying what ESPN anchor said. It was clear he said Waiters was trade bait. Maybe he meant after Jan 1

How big of a joke would it be if we're in talks with Orlando for like 2 years and nothing ever materializes?

here's the link incase anyone wants to look stuff up themselves

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q92

92. When can a team trade a free agent it signs? Do they have to keep him forever?

Generally a team only has to keep a player for three months after signing a contract or December 151 of that season, whichever is later. This does not apply to draft picks, who can be traded 30 days after signing. For sign-and-trade transactions, the initial trade which completes the sign-and-trade obviously is allowed, even though it occurs right after the player is signed. The trade restriction in a sign-and-trade applies to the first subsequent trade.

See question number 97 for more information on trade restrictions.

I just figured out why teams keep going to Cleveland in order to make Orlando trade them Howard. Word on the street that Cleveland owner has this picture of Vice President Pat Williams!! This is the Orlando Magic blackmail card LMBO  !!
