MKG wasn't my first choice either ... but I'm impressed with both the quality and quantiy of support this pick had across the league.

That's what I was speculating when I saw all those mock draft having us draft Thomas Robinson. I heard all these rumors of teams trying to move up to either draft Beal, MKG, or even Drummond. I didn't heard of a single rumor of a team moving to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pick to pick Robinson. I'm just glad these mock drafts had it wrong. It seemed like, not just us, but other teams were high on MKG.

I voted B because B+ is not an option.

the only reason I'd mark us down is beacuse MKG and Taylor play the same position though I believe MKG can play SG(eventually)

Great draft imo.

No, more like MKG at #4, Moultrie at #24 and Jeff Taylor at #31 as usual, or just MKG and Moultrie if we had to give #31 to the Cavs.

Really, I'm more pissed than anything that we didn't draft one big man when the draft was chock full of them. Not necessarily in the top 4, just in the 1st round in general. This draft was full of promising big men and it would have greatly behooved us to add one thanks to the rookie contract and now we're left fighting the NBA to overpay "old man" Jamison or "damaged goods" Hickson.

I don't think it says a lot, honestly. Something about if everybody was jumping off a bridge comes to mind. I'm not saying that NBA GMs were lemmings in this draft, but there are just as many examples of GMs botching high draft picks as not.

Both Bismack and MKG were the youngest players in their drafts, it made me wonder if there was any correlation between age and success with draft picks so I looked up the oldest and youngest picks in the 3 drafts before Bismack/MKG and did some back-of-the-eveloping (top 20 picks only because I have other things to do)

Format: Name/Draft pick/ career PER >15

2010
Youngest
1. Derrick Favors/3rd/yes
2. Xavier Henry/12th/no
3. Avery Bradley/19th/no
4. John Wall/1st/yes
5. Demarcus Cousins/5th/yes
Oldest:
1. Ekpe Udoh/6th/no
2. Wesley Johnson/4th/no
3. Evan Tuner/2nd/no
4. Cole Aldrich/11th/no
5. Larry Sanders/15th/no

2009
Youngest
1.Ricky Rubio/5/no,almost
2. Jrue Holdiday/17th/no, almost
3. Brandon Jennings/10th/yes
4. Tyreke Evans/4th/yes
5. James Harden/3rd/yes
Oldest
1. Tyler Hansbrough/13th/yes
2. James Johnson/16th/no
3. Eric Maynor/20th/no
4. Terrence Williams/11th/no
5. Jordan Hill/8th/no

2008

Youngest
1.Anthony Randolph/14th/yes
2. Michael Beasely/2nd/yes
3. Eric Gordon/7th/yes
4. Russel Westbrook/4th/yes
5. Derrick Rose/1st/yes
Oldest
1. Brandon Rush/13th/no
2. Jason Thompson/12th/no
3. Roy Hibbert/17th/yes
4. Joe Alexander/8th/no
5. Marreese Speights/16th/yes

The younger players average draft position was 6.8, 10 of 15 had a career PER of 15 or better.
The older players average draft position was 11.47, 3 of 15 had a career PER of 15 or better.

So the Younger players were both drafted higher and had significantly more success (by one metric anyway) after they were drafted. All of the older players who were "successful" were big-men. Which add some credence to the theory that big men develop later.

Great job e4Nf6.

Amazing considering you would back the older players to be NBA ready although the younger guys were generally top recruit one and dones..

What you guys think of John Wall and Beal backcourt?

A little undersized but that is one to watch out for, I would take it in a heartbeat over the Cavs and Kyrie/Waiters.

I really like the way the Wiz are panning out(despite Grunfeld), people are waiting for Wall to breakout but if you look at the selfish personalities that he was surrounded with then I can understand why he hasn't taken the next step.

Hopefully with vets of Okafor and Nene's stature Wall will be the player we know he can be.

Beal is an intriguing prospect and most likely the evntual third best player from this class, perfect foil for Wall and plays big despite his size.

Interestingly Chocolate City Jordanaire thinks we have a stronger rebuilding roster than the Wiz though I believe that is highly debatable...

Wall/Beal/Ariza/Okafor/Nene-Vesely/Seraphin/Singleton/Crawford/Booker
Vs.
Kemba/Henderson/Gilchrist/Biyombo/Haywood-Gordon/Mullens/Sessions/Taylor/Tyrus

Two questions, one is since you are in this thread what would give as our draft grade and what would you give you guys?

Second question is hwo would you rate both our rebuilding situations?

i think we are pretty well off considering we have comparable youth to the wizards considering we are at least a year behind them rebuild wise. they have a recent #1 overall and a #3 overall pick in their starting line.

I think Beal was the perfect fit for Wall, he plays so within the game and doesn't force anything and is a good shooter that will help open up the floor for Wall to penetrate. They're not that undersized really, both more than make up for it with athleticism.

I think the Okafor, Ariza trade put Washington on a treadmill. That team is good, but it won't ever be great. They have win-now pieces when they should still be just gather young guys to make a playoff push in 13-14, the same way we are.

I think the acquisitions of Gordon and Haywood, and the NBA readiness of our rookies might actually hold us back a little in the long run. I think our lineup can go farther than Washington's, but it won't be anytime soon.

Well to answer your questions i like what you guys are doing drafted a hard worker but very talented player in Michael kidd GilChrist he was my second option if we did not draft Bradley Beal. You guys added a vet in Ben Gordon who can score the basket if he can get back to what he was in Chicago you guys have a good player. I think you guys have a nice start with your team. I expect a better season from Kemba also i would give you, guys an B+ for the draft and the players you added in free agent. As for wizards i would give us a B+ also we get two solid vets not all star type guys but very solid professionals that will help are needs and are locker room. I expect are defense to be a little better then last season and we have a nice young core to build for in the future i think both teams are heading in the right direction.
