If Jimmer was 6'5" and 19yo I'd be fine wiht that equivalency. But, he's 6'2" and 23 years old allready. And where Kanter and Favors are struggling to get minutes behind guys like Millsap and Jefferson, Jimmer is struggling to get minutes behind Isiah Thomas AKA the last pick in the 2nd round last year.

Lets keep it real here.

OK, Kanter is young, he wins that one. He isn't necessarily very tall or athletic. You know there are plenty of people in the league that are already claiming Kanter to be a bust based on last years rookie season and summer league regardless of his struggle for minutes, right? There are also those that would say that an overall 3rd pick should have unseated an undersized 47th overall pick by now as well.

Again, I'm not saying he is not a bust, but I'm saying it's not fair to label him that this early in his career. I'm not even a BYU or Jimmer fan, just like the idea of a local guy doing well.

Pulling the age card is so hypocritical.

So many of you have argued that Al Jefferson became a better passer last season despite being very old and you've also tried to say that Millsap has improved at later stages in his career.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Well, I'm not ready to call Kanter a bust, but I do think his size and lack of athleticism severely limit his potential. The thing is, there are other bigs in the league lacking in explosiveness that have done well. And he can defend at his position, we've seen it. Plus he's got an NBA skill all ready, rebounding.

I think he can carve out a career. I don't think Kanter will be a star, but, based on what I've seen so far I think he can have a journeyman type career.

Jimmer also has an NBA level talent, shooting. But, unlike Kanter, Jimmer's talent didn't translate very well as a rookie shooting 38%. So, even Jimmer's very best talent, the one he hangs his hat on, was quite poor his first season. Kanter's adjusted rebounding numbers were actually impressive on the other hand.

Kanter can defend his position. Kanter has a position. You can't say the same thing for Jimmer. Jimmer can't defend, we're not sure if he's a PG or SG, and his handle is so poor he wilts to ball pressure.

So, while I see Kanter panning out to have a nice NBA career as a Journeyman level center. I don't see much beyond backup PG or SG for Jimmer. And that's only if he can develop his game a bit, especially his defense and his NBA skill, shooting, gets up to a level you'd anticipate from him based on his college career.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I agree Kanter is a short for the NBA at only 6'11". But he's only 20 so there's a chance he could grow more.

He's the strongest player ever measured by P3, but who cares about strength. That's easy to find in the draft.

If there are plenty of people in the league claiming Kanter is a bust, let's have a short list of say 4.

I didn't mean people in the league, I meant people in general, my mistake.

Also, the difference between success for Kanter and success for Jimmer is fairly sizable. I'd be happy to see Kanter develop into a serviceable journeyman starting center in the league with one (it's certainly looking that way) outstanding NBA talent, and that would be a marginal success for a 3rd overall pick. Being a 2nd option at PG or SG with (and the jury is still very much out on this one) one very good NBA talent, would likewise be a marginal success for a 10th overall pick, perhaps better than marginal for a 10th overall pick, given the history of picks in that range.

The NBA is also much more loaded at the 1 and 2 positions than it is at the 5. What a joke it is that Howard is clearly the best Center in the league right now.

Biggest difference here is that Kanter is our potential bust and Jimmer is someone else's potential bust.

Exactly, which is why it's important to leave biases behind when deciding if a player is or will be a bust or not.

Personally, if things stay the way they are, meaning Kanter stays with the Jazz and Jimmer with the Kings, Jimmer will be a bust and out of the league in 1 more year while Kanter could still go either way. The Kings are so bad and don't care about developing talent correctly. I hope Jimmer finds a team more suited to his abilities. Ironically, I think the style of the Kings is worse for him, though it would seem initially it would benefit him. He can't play the way he did in college and be successful in this league, and the Kings basically want him to play the way he did in college.
