Conditioning does not mean health.
I'm sure there are plenty of guys out of shape for Summer League. Once the combine and their workout circuit is over, I'm sure plenty shut it down for several weeks.
I do think Cleveland will regret drafting him-but because he was a reach, not because of conditioning issues.

If I was a Cleveland fan, I'd say the same thing about Waiters that I'll say now as a Wizards fan: It's waaaaaaaaaaaay too early to give a moments thought to regretting the team drafting him. It's summer league. It means very close to nothing. He has two months to get in shape and be ready for training camp. He's played precisely zero meaningful NBA minutes.

It's not Waiter's poor shooting that would bother me as a Cavs fan. It's that he should already be in shape. That's the very least I expect from a pro athlete, especially a 20 year old. I worry about guys who come to work without doing the basic preparation, which for an athlete means being in shape.

Re: NBA Summer League in Las Vegas (July 13 to 22)
It would worry me if Waiters shows up to training camp out of shape after being out of shape for summer league. The summer league can be chalked up to ignorance (not knowing what "in shape" means at the pro level) and/or immaturity. If he corrects the mistake and is ready to go at training camp, then summer league goes into the bygones category. If he doesn't correct the problem...then it's a much bigger issue because it tells the team some bad things about the guy's character and work ethic.

And Mack simply is horrible. D league player at best. Gosh I wish we had a mulligan for last year so we could've picked klay Thompson and Faried.
Beal is a good player, granted. But he's supposed to be able to shoot. I'm seeing more of the 33% 3pt shooter from his freshman year regular season than the 42% shooter he was in the tournament.

Crowder with 20 and 8 tonight for mavs. I hope I'm wrong but my gut tells me crowder, tyshawn Taylor and d lamb will prove we made mistake in taking Tomaz. According to leonsis, we r done rebuilding so y draft a guy that can't help us for another 2-3 years.

I think Terrence Jones is going to be one heck of a good NBA player one day.

from what Ive seen when Beal has a good look he knocks it down.....in the Milwake game he had to toss up some bad shots to beat the clock. What I like about Beal is toughness....he takes contact and finished...hustle..hes had some blocks just by hustling.....good decisions....he hasnt turned the ball over..he does look like the smallest player out there though...I definitely think he can play some PG
he also hit some nice pull up jumpers coming off screens.

Re: NBA Summer League in Las Vegas (July 13 to 22)
I spent a while looking at what round 2 guys did in SL, and the early returns do not make us look like geniuses (except for me of course; see below) -- Crowder and Barton have played poorly. Draymond Green hasn't played well. Quincy Miller... bad. And so forth.
Doron Lamb has been better than any of these guys -- none of you called for him, but I did. I was *absolutely sure* he was the guy for us at #32. Didn't I mention that? Oh....
None of us called for Bernard James -- he's dominated in SL. Of course, he's 27, but then so are a lot of the other players in SL. Still, a bit old for a draft pick which is probably why none of us raised a flag for him.
Further down the board, Kyle O'Quinn stands out for his SL work -- and in this case, no joke, I did actually call for him to be picked at our #46 when we still had it.
And then there's one guy who's really been bad -- and that would be Tomas Satoransky. Thank God we have him in the fold, huh?

Re: NBA Summer League in Las Vegas (July 13 to 22)
^^^ And this is exactly why it makes no sense to make a big deal of summer league either way.
Take Crowder for example. Does anyone really think he's a 40% free throw shooter? Add 3 made free throws to his totals (he shot .735 last season on 119 attempts at Marquette) and his efficiency (ortg) rises 7 points.
He's shooting 4-14 on 3pt attempts. Well that's "just" .286. He must suck as a 3pt shooter, right? Add a single made 3 and his percentage would jump to .357 and all of a sudden he's a solid 3pt shooter.
Summer league is too short to mean much of anything.

Poor Shelvin
And just now on Twitter..
The more glaring need, however, is finding a backup point guard.
“We’re looking for somebody who can run a ball-club,” said Sam Cassell on Sunday. “We’ve got John Wall, but after John Wall, we need to figure it out. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
Now, this is not an indictment of Shelvin Mack, although his summer league play did little to inspire.
And just now on Twitter..
Shelvin Mack @ShelvinMack
Think Positive.....

Yup.
Just in an especially pessimistic mood about EG's direction today.

I'm glad he's doing it. Someone has to break the news to our ignorant front office that Mack is not an NBA-quality point guard. He should be in the NBDL working on his game.
Only in Ernie Grunfeld's delusional mind is Mack worthy of a roster spot, let alone a backup point guard spot.

I'm glad the organization is looking elsewhere. I do feel somewhat bad for mack, he doesn't come off as a malcontent or knucklehead. He just isn't NBA stuff yet. I think he needs to bounce around in D-league play or overseas for about 2-3 years. That and lose some damn weight.
