On Greinke, I like the idea depending on A. what the asking price is and B. depending on A., whether he'd be a rental or a long-term signee. I really think you can never have too much good pitching and Greinke's one of the best.

The offense looks like it's righted itself. Getting Werth back later in the season will be like making a trade. Until he comes back, I'm not sure why "Mary" Tyler Moore isn't playing everyday. Dude hit 30 HRs in B2B years in the minors. Just play him everyday and move Lombardozzi to a utility/pinch hitting role. I'd even just leadoff with him.

I don't want the Nats to give up too much in the way of prospects for a Greinke or another rental. We're talking 5-6 starts for a 5th starter when the team shuts down Strasburg for the year. I think they can get by with a combination of Wang, Detwiler and Lannan. In the playoffs, it would be a 4-man rotation at most anyway.

Loving the resurgence of DC baseball

However, Nats cannot keep blowing games to bottom feeders like Colorado

It was an exciting game, but very disappointing. It was clear the Nationals were the better team, but they made some killer mistakes.

Yay!!! More losses = better draft position, right?

Wait, did I miss something? That is the official Washington Sports Fan protocol, isn't it?

Yea, that should have been a W yesterday - 2 wild pitches/passed balls is a pretty weak way to lose to a bottom feeding team. The Nats can sometimes have games like this where they remind us how young they are.

Regardless, 49 wins at the break and first place in the NL East, yea, I'll take that. And it's no fluke.

What a win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was at the game going crazy. Pretty mild crowd until the later innings, probably because of a pitchers duel.

HARPER!!!

This plus Blatche being amnestied makes me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rizzo now hedging on Strasburg's innings limit. Not surprising. Will be very interesting to see how they handle this.

Storen is back, Werth is on his way, and I think Chad Tracy is shortly after, who will help with bench depth.

In terms of moves leading up to the deadline, I wouldn't mind an improvement at catcher. I'm sure Flores does solid work behind the plate, but man is he a black hole offensively.

Is Rizzo really hedging or is that just how the media wants to report it? I thought Rizzo always indicated there wasn't an exact number but it would around 160 innings. So that could be 159 or 164 or even 168. I've always thought it would be a number in the 160s, I really don't think that has changed.

He's not hedging. Stras will be shut down. Just not sure how many innings exactly. Like Dat said, it'll be somewhere in the 160s.

Difference btwn "160 no matter what" and "it will be the eye test" is hedging IMO.

What that will ultimately mean we'll just have to find out.

Rizzo never stated it would be 160. Thats what people assumed because that was the number all along for Zimmermann last year, but they never committed to 160.

160 was Jordan Zimmermann's limit last year, and look how awesome he's been this year(our best and most consistent SP). So Strasburg's limit will probably be around 160 as well.

Currently tied with the Yanks with the best record in baseball. 5 straight wins and a sweep of the Mets (who, frankly, aren't that good). And I think this Strasburg guy is going to be pretty good.

Need to get Henry Rodriguez off of our roster. The thought of him pitching in a postseason game is already making me nervous.

DFA HRod asap. In addition to his obvious walk rate, he's tied for 2nd in wild pitches...all other pitchers in the top 10 are starting pitchers.

Tough spot. HRod has no options remaining do designating him for assignment would be to lose him. You just don't give up on a 25 year old with an effortless 100 mph heater and one of the nastiest curves in baseball.

To give up on him would be so Wes Unseld.

So is there still any clarity to the Strasburg situation? He'll pitch up to 180 innings but now they are saying he could miss a couple starts? They have to be trying to keep him available for October right?

Otherwise, love the way the team is playing and this is without Desmond and a completely slumping Bryce Harper. The leadoff situation is still a problem but the team's O has certainly come around in a big way.

Sorry so late to the HRod convo, but man did he make me nervous when he was out there. It's like you just *knew* he was going to walk a few guys, uncork a couple to the backstop, and then overcompensate and groove one down the middle.

Perhaps, all he needs is a real thick pair of glasses?
