Orlando board is so butt hurt right now. They were recently refusing the Nets offer and now they think the Lakers offer is worst than the Nets. lmao. These guys think Hennigan can get them a Lebron James and Kobe Bryant and top 5 draft picks and expiring contracts all at once.
They're going to be so butt hurt when they find out that all they did was get rid of their bad contracts.

To what purpose? Trying for leverage from Gilbert?
Trying to force the situation all together, not just Gilbert and the Cavs. This has been going on about a month straight, you can even include the months long talks leading up to the trade deadline if you want to. At some point one party is going to reach a tipping point and get fed up with talks, especially if you're negotiating with a franchise that wavers as much as Orlando.

Right, but thats not something we are bluffing or hiding. If we are not going to get howard then they are going to offer him an extension...even if he turns it down. The Nets did the same thing. Sooner or later the lakers have to move on to finish out their bench and secure there own guys. But I dont find that to be breaking news or something thats leaked to negotiate. Its the truth. Sooner or later lakers will have to mend the relationship with Bynum and you would think that the lakers would want to start doing that sooner than later....assuming we dont get Howard. But this cant go on forever, Lakers have giving plenty of time to let this thing play out.
Bynum's not going to sign a deal/extension with anyone before July 2013, what other purpose is there in letting it be known that we plan on engaging extension talks with Bynum if a deal doesn't happen soon?

Oh THAT extension threat... Yeah that obviously was us pushing...
I thought we were talking about Bynum's 'Threat' that he might not sign long-term in Clev.
I'm not sure what the purpose of that threat would be.

Weather he signs it or not doesnt change the lakers actions or intentions. I think they will approach him about an extension and I think he will turn it down( I mentioned that in my last post). Why take 3 yrs when you can get 5. Clippers did the same thing with CP3. I dont think for one bit that Mitch is lying to Orlando about trying to get drew to sign an extension. Who knows, with Bynums injuries maybe Mitch thinks he can get him to sign

Why would they approach him with an extension when its clear its not the best option to sign one? If they dont land D12 they pretty much have to proceed with Bynum.

My point isn't about Bynum signing the extension. If you're the Lakers, why would you let that be known by everyone if you're trying to trade Bynum yet you have a whole year to agree to terms with him? It's not like Bynum's value isn't known and his agent has to go to war for him, he's a max contract player.
It's because the Lakers are trying to force a deal to happen.

But Max means two different things with the new CBA right? He sign extension tomorrow the max is 3yrs/60mill. He signs next summer its 5yrs/100mill. Numbers are off but you get understand what Im saying. Im sure lakers are way more comfortable giving him the 3yr than the 5yr.
Edit: I also think they want to get this done and not let it go into the season. But he's not going to sign, its more of a courtesy

I'm not talking about the money, I'm talking about the timing. Bynum's not signing anything anyone gives him this year period, he and his agent know to hold out until the 2013 offseason and get all the money he can. The timing of an extension that the Lakers are threatening with while being in talks for Dwight Howard is what I'm getting at.

Of course he's not going to sign it, but the Lakers have an entire year to agree to terms to a new deal. Bynum talks should last no longer than a week max, you already know he's set to get max figures. Why are they making it known right now that they have plans on proceeding with extending Bynum if a deal for Howard cannot be reached soon?

lets get that framework agreed to! and of course Cavs are eager, they're stealing Bynum from the Magic with all these reports so far.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are eager partners in the three-way blockbuster trade talks to send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, but won’t proceed until the Lakers grant the them permission to talk to All-Star Andrew Bynum and his agent about the center’s willingness to sign a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
"Cleveland will only do the deal if Bynum extends," a league official directly involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports.
Los Angeles wants the structure of a three-team deal agreed in principle before letting Cleveland take that next step to communicate with Bynum and his representatives – and that won’t happen until Orlando makes a decision that it wants to also lock-in the framework of a trade, sources told Y!
So far, Orlando has shown a level of indecisiveness in the talks, sources involved in the negotiations said.

I get what you are saying, I just dont necessarily agree with it. Players have egos, If im Bynum and the team I play for spent the entire time trying to trade me and didnt have the courtesy to sit me down and offer me an extension before the season, I would be pissed. I understand they have all year but if this trade doesnt go down they better be ready to kiss his a**. The best way to start that process is to offer him a extension ASAP. Even if he turns it down. Its the gesture that counts.

Rumor out in LA is that Bynum is not going to sign an extension.

Re: Howard Thread III (Howard ready to join Lakers p.68)
mitch offering a contract extension to Drew is him doing his due diligence, whether you think Bynum would accept or not.
personally, I'm not convinced that Bynum would just shrug off the idea. He knows his knee issues as much as anyone else. Locking himself into a near max deal that pays him til his mid prime when he can get another max deal isn't that hard to imagine.

And he's not going to because he stands to make more money by becoming a free agent. Like I've been saying.

Well, the thought of both agreeing to an extension seemed so stupid, but I would love to be proven wrong.
But Bynum is so immature, I bet he would tell Cleveland he wouldn't sign long term & had no interest in playing for the cavs even if secretly he would want to, just to be a prick.
