You're looking at it from Orlando's standpoint, and they could wait that long. But obviously LA is growing impatient and wants to speed up the process or the thought of them pulling out of the race by extending Bynum would've never been leaked had LA been fine playing months long game of paddy cake.

i don't know what u are referring to when u say leaked.

are we not talking about mitch's own comments given to various media members in las vegas?

The only way I see this happening is that the Cavs come at the conversation from a possibility stand point. What I mean is when they talk to bynum they say something like, we are not asking you to commit to us today but can you see yourself signing an extension if you like what you see and like how we run our organization. And sell him on the fact that he will be paired with one of the best PG's in the game for the next 10 yrs. If they try to make him give them a commitment right now....I dont see that happening

No. I'm talking about a tweet from a couple days ago that said LA was looking to extend Bynum if a Howard trade didn't hurry up and materialize itself. I believe this was before Mitch made comments to the media about how 95% of what's been said is false.

Bynum has a bit of a tough decision. Extend now and get $60 million guaranteed or gamble that he can remain healthy for a year, this is no small gamble mind you, and get a guaranteed $100 million.

I'd probably take the extension if I were him because the $60 million he'd get for that extension would absolutely guarantee he'd never have to work again in his life. Also, once the three year extension ends he'd obviously be in a position to sign a new contract so he's not losing out on $40 million. He only loses out on the $40 million if he somehow gets a career ending injury between now and the end of his three year contract extension.

mitch talked to the media 5 days ago:

Kupchak also said he was in contact with Bynum's agent, David Lee.

"I talk to his representative more than most representatives," Kupchak said. "He's deeply involved with his clients and he works hard with general managers on behalf of his clients. Over the last few weeks, we've had light discussions.

"We'll get to it sooner rather than later."

I remember reading that on the wiretap. I'm pretty sure it was before, if not a day or two or three before that came out. I posted the tweet in this thread so it shouldn't be that hard to go back and compare.

Andrew Bynum's agent, David Lee, was surprised to read a recent report indicating his interest in signing a new deal with the Cavaliers.

"When I read it online I was in Alaska with Andrew and his family," said Lee. "I was taken aback by the list considering there is nobody in anybody’s camp he could’ve been talking to. I have no idea where that came about."

The Cavaliers have been involved in multi-team Dwight Howard/Bynum trade talks involving the Lakers and Magic.

The Yahoo! report also included the Mavericks as a team Bynum would be interested in signing with.

thats not even the issue right now anyway. the lakers/cavs/magic have to agree to a trade framework before the cavs even get permission to talk to bynum. this isn't about bynum committing or not, this is still about getting a trade that all parties agree to.

from woj's article that was posted earlier:

"Cleveland will only do the deal if Bynum extends," a league official directly involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

Los Angeles wants the structure of a three-team deal agreed in principle before letting Cleveland take that next step to communicate with Bynum and his representatives – and that won’t happen until Orlando makes a decision that it wants to also lock-in the framework of a trade
, sources told Y!

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter

Jim Buss on @NBATV : "We are fully confident if we ever made a move to get Dwight Howard that he would re-sign with us."

for some reason it seems odd that jim buss would make a comment about Howard like that. anywhoo, obviously the lakers got the message loud and clear.

That is very odd. Teams are not supposed to comment about players on other teams like this.

isn't that tampering and the lakers and cavs might be looking at a fine, or unless they already have an agreement in principal

I don't think that's against the rules, but at the same time it shouldn't be done unless there's a deal that's close to being agreed upon. Tampering would be if Jim Buss and Mitch had met with Dwight without Orlando's acknowledgement and talking him into committing.

i think that all three team's might have something goin on behind closed doors and were slowly finding out about things, so there must be a deal close enough for the teams to have to discuss the players involved
