What About Rudy Gay?

Post#1 » by rugbyrugger23 » Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:21 pm

Is he a 'all in' option for the Wolves? He may not be the perfect fit at SF, but definitely an electrifying scorer that could grow as a player next to KLove. He has been rumored to be on and off the trade block, plus his trade value is a little down vs. few years ago. And Memphis seems motivated to lower payroll.

So would a trade centered around DWill, as Griz future and cheaper SF, get Gay from Memphis to MN?

Example trade:
To Griz: DWill, Webster (NG contract), Wes, their owed 1st back, future MN 1st if needed, and maybe even role up the stalled Ellington for Cunningham into this trade.

To Wolves: Rudy Gay

Complete underachiever in the Playoffs. Looked like a complete blackhole against the Clippers.

I'd still take him over Williams at sf but that contract is pretty hefty. I'd rather pay Iggy his 1-2 year contract tbh.

Iggy would still be my #1 choice at this point, but to prevent us from settling on Brewer, I would possibly go after Gay if available ... we're gonna overpay someone at some point and that all there's to it.

You guys kidding me. I'd be all over Gay, I don't think Memphis will move him though. I'd take him in a heart beat.

Hmm you still trying to trade Webster?

Gay would be nice if they'd trade him, but I don't see why they would especially after just allowing Mayo to walk. Maybe if they are playing way below expectations at the deadline then we can revisit Gay. As of right now, don't see it.

I would much rather have Gay then Deng. Gay can create his own shot and is pretty clutch. He's not as good as Deng on defense, but he's younger and more of a weapon on offense. I'd like to see Gay being set up by Rubio...and having the pressure taken off of him by Love/Pekovic. He isn't the greatest fit with ZBO since both really need the ball to score.

This.

Deng seems old and I am not confident about his body golding up over time. Give me Rudy.

Deng is available. Deng is a better defender and shooter. Doesn't need the ball to be effective. Better fit next to ball dominating backcourt of Rubio-Roy/Shved. Deng plays winning brand of basketball, Gay not so much. Deng is cheaper.

Deng is injured, probably going to miss 1/2 the year. Deng also just shoot 41% for the season(really debatable who's a better shooter, both are average, had a lower PER and WS, Gay is a slightly better rebounder, and I think he's a much better clutch performer.

Deng is cheaper, but I really don't have a problem with either contract(both are overpaid...but both are all-star level players).

$16,460,538 $17,888,932 $19,317,326---player option for Gay
$13,365,000 $14,275,000 for Deng

We need to stop worrying about people being overpaid right now. We have Rubio on his rookie deal and will ahve to extend Pek...we need to make a move or our cap is gone.

Iguodala & Deng are 1A-1B for me. Gay would be my preference after seeing what D.Will can do.

With deng or iggy we can afford to keep Pek, gay makes that very unlikely. And he really sucked in the playoffs.

Chicago and Philadelphia are far more likely to want to make a deal...

Iggy and Love are playing together with team USA! Philly is loaded at the guard spots! Connect the dots!

he can score but from what ive seen he is a giant black hole. his team played better without him.

dude, Rudy Gay is a top 5 SF and is still young and has an all around game(sure it can improve) but i think he has the chance to be a great all around player.

you guys set the bar high with these guys Iggy, Danny Granger, Rudy Gay but how much do you wanna bet we only end up with Brandon Rush(caliber) and a few back up role players.

which isnt the end of the world cuz we need a strong bench^.

but at this point unless Kahn makes an unexpected great trade move, i really dont see us getting anything more than a role player this off season.
better hope for the trade deadline or next off season or Kevin Love will be asking for a trade.....
