In other words. Howard will not extend right away, but after the season with the Lakers. Reason why this was put out because Howard is scared to go to the Rockets, sensing that it could be his likely destination, is the reason why his homie put it out.

If he extended right after a trade, he could only sign for 3 years. If he waits until the end of that season he gets 5yrs and a 100 mil+.......simple business, no need to freak out or make it more than it really is.

What's probably being decided is which team (LAL and CLE) is eating the bad contracts and which contracts are deemed okay for Orlando to take to make it work under the CBA. Here's my best guess of how it goes down ...

Lakers get:
Dwight
Jason Richardson

Cleveland gets:
Bynum
Hedo

Orlando gets:
Sideshow
Tristan Thompson
C. Eyenga
Josh McRoberts (expiring)
Luke Walton (expiring - buyout)
CLE 1st round pick
SAC 1st round pick (cleveland owns)
(2) CLE 2nd round picks

That is a pretty **** haul for Orlando - unless you're really trying to bottom out. But it does rid them of their main crappy contracts and gives them picks and Thompson to build around - plus they have a tradeable asset in Sideshow that's certainly worthy of a 1st round pick. When it's all said and done, they should have 3 first round picks in the 2013 draft.

Hi guys im a lifelong Phoenix fan but I have to admit your front office did well in bringing in Nash and Howard while shipping out headcase Bynum. Nash will re-energize Gasol on offense with his amazing pick and rolls and playing off the ball when Kobe isolates and draws the double he will drain the 3 being one of the greatest shooters of all time. Now you guys are adding Howard to defend the paint on defense and rebound? You guys are going to be scary.

Im still kinda mad PHX got Beasley...think he has the potential to be a star if he can get his head right.

Um, the front office has only brought Nash thus far. At the end of the day, Dwight is a whack job who could suddenly ask for a trade to the Alaskan Bocce Ball League.

One other question for the group ... given the new tax implications ... isn't it better to have Hedo for 2 years (at more money) than J-Rich for 3 years?

Also, not for nothing ... but I always thought Hedo might be the one with more upside on our team ... he seems to play extraordinarily better when the lights are brightest. Maybe he just needs to get back on a winning team?

Hedo sucks. He had a few decent seasons, but he really doesn't have a position and I just don't see how he provides anything. JRich as a back-up SG/SF who can shoot
It and plays good D is exactly what we need. Much better fit.

Also, with this whole varajao thing. This is a guy with a pretty decent amount of value around the league. Orlando can def move him to a contender for a pick or expirings well before the end of his contract.

I'd be happy with or without Dwight at this point, Bynum will still do damage down low hopefully he can learn a thing or 2 about passing on double teams from Nash.

You are thinking very very short term. Dwight is a force with mediocre players. I dont think you want to see the Lakers when Bynum is the center of the team when Kobe and Nash dip out.

In a word, "no." Next year is when the incremental tax hits, so every $5M over the tax costs increasingly more. That is why Hedo will never be sent to the Lakers and why the Lakers would prefer to not take anyone back that has a guarantee next year as they are already quite a bit over the tax. It is also why it is preferable to jettison Blake and his $4M next year in any deal, because that $4M represents a much larger number when the incremental tax is taken into consideration. Just as an FYI, here are the numbers:

$0-4.9M = $1.50
$5M-9.99M = $1.75
$10M-14.99M = $2.50
$15M-19.99M = $3.25
$20M+ = $3.75 +.50 each 5M

Whether Dwight or Bynum, the salary for 2013-14 will be somewhere around $90M with KB24, Pau, Nash, MWP, Blake and min deals to fill out the roster. With the tax line expected to be around $72M, you can see how much additional $ on next year's cap will be felt.
