OT- Gunman kills 12, wounds 71 In Batman movie theatre film

Post#1 » by DirtyDez » Fri Jul 20, 2012 11:24 am

At least 14 people were killed and 50 wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.

The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman, told CNN. The suspect was not immediately identified, though Fania said he was believed to be in his early 20s.

"He did not resist. He did not put up a fight," Fania said. Police seized a rifle and a handgun from the suspect, and another gun was found in the theater, he said

Jordan told the paper that one girl was struck in cheek, others in stomach including a girl who looked to be around 9-years-old.

Fourteen people are dead and up to 50 injured in a Denver suburb after a masked gunman opened fire at a late-night screening of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
Witnesses speaking to the local KOA radio station said the gunman was wearing a gas mask and had released a smoke or teargas bomb before the shooting started. One witness described to CNN a "guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people".
Police have taken a suspect into custody. A man said to be in his early 20s carrying a knife, rifle and handgun and wearing a bulletproof vest was arrested without a struggle in a car park behind the cinema.
The police chief in the Denver suburb of Aurora, where the shooting took place, said there was no evidence of a second gunman.
"This is a horrific event," Dan Oates told reporters. He said police had checked for explosives in the cinema and car park and secured both areas.
"Our hearts go out to all of the family. We have mobilised the witnesses that we could get our hands on to an area high school where de-briefings are under way," he said.
Local hospitals were alerted to a "mass casualty incident". Media reports said 10 people died at the scene and four died later in hospital.
A witness told CNN: "We heard anywhere from 10 to 20 shots and little explosions going on. Shortly after that we heard people screaming. Then they came on PA system and said everyone needed to get out. As soon as we got out, there were people running around and screaming."
Other witnesses said the gunman opened fire during a shootout scene in the movie, leading to confusion.
Police said the first emergency call was made at 00.39am local time.
A spokeswoman for Denver's Swedish Medical Center said three people had been admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds and were in a critical condition.
Another hospital, Denver Health, had received six wounded, one of whom was in critical condition, a spokeswoman said.
Aurora is 10 miles south-east of the centre of Denver, Colorado.

That's so damn sad. The extent of human evil sometimes floors me. I can't imagine what their families are going through right now.

Blame the influx of brutally violent video games and movies in this generation of adolescents.

As an adolescent myself, I've never been into all those violent video games and such. I'm not saying that just because people play violent video games and watch brutal movies will commit henious acts like this, but in my mind there is no doubt that when people cant distinguish fiction from reality, the violence in todays media plays a part in crimes such as this.

My thoughts go out to the families.

I don't understand this. I just don't. My oldest is 6-years-old. The same age as one of the victims.

I hate to politicise this, but civilians shouldn't have access to assault rifles and automatic/semiautomatic weapons. We just shouldn't.

Not sure if serious.

You do realize people all over the world play these videos games and watch these movies, right? Do you see so many of these repeated shooting massacres anywhere else?

This has NOTHING to do with video games. Having the ability to actually take human lives is not even in the same area code as pushing a button on a video game control. So sick of hearing that.

People like this prey upon the understanding of society. Then they snap and do terrible things and we're left wondering why.

The why is irrelevant.

The problem is that no one respects anyone else anymore. Heck, after VE Day in Europe, the Americans and Germans (although there was some understandable hesitation) at least respceted one another - and this after they had been trying to kill each other for years. That's how men use to act.

This guy, whoever he is, clearly doesn't respect anybody. And he shouldn't be shown any respect in return. He's going to act calm and cool (and this will freak some people out), but it's all a show. I wan't someone to break that little bitch. I want them to waterboard him in front of every family affected by this tragedy. I wan't him crying like a sissy. I want everyone there to see the look on his face when he realizes that, "OMG! There is something worse in this world than my pathetic, imagined aingst over my unimaginative, unproductive, lack of a life."

Author was killed last night in Denver, only after escaping a previous act of senseless violence. http://wp.me/p1GaPE-1U

In a civilised world there is no need for firearms. too sad that we are shocked with news like that everyday. Bomb attacks on israelian tourists in bulgaria, massacre in colorado and the list goes on.... :(

I agree. I played a lot of violent video games as a kid and I got really, really depressed when I had to kill a mouse last week. Like...super depressed.

So this idea that violent video games turns us into psychopathic killers does not hold much weight with me.

How sickening. This douche wouldn't be standing trial if I were the one apprehending him. Senseless violence, ugh. Now I feel sick.

I genuinely disdain people with this opinion.

How are things going over there in fantasy land?

Guess what? No matter where you think we have advanced to as a nation/people, there will ALWAYS be crazy people and people who just want to watch the world burn. Law abiding citizens MUST retain the ability to protect themselves from people like this. 99.999% of civilians don't have automatic weapons. Only guns that were registered as transferable before 1986 exist on the market, and even then, a civilian legal full auto M-16 costs around $20k. Semi-auto weapons are absolutely necessary. Evil people often join up and do things as a group (robberies, terrorism, atrocities (like Columbine, etc)) I could go on and on.
A well armed law abiding citizenry helps protect against things like this. An awesome example happened just the other day when two guys went into an internet cafe with a gun and a baseball bat, and a 71 year old man with a concealed .380 who feared for his life fired and saved everyone. In fact, I would say it is quite possible that had there been one or two conceal carry people in that theater, lives could have been saved. It's hard to walk calmly up an aisle massacring when you are taking fire. Chances are he would have ran. But that is all speculation.
Bottom line is crazy people are going to be crazy. Smart, law abiding, and trained people need to be that counter balance (and often are).

Get out of here with your gun control and restriction. It never works and only gets more people killed.

Be carefull my friend this is a slippery slope when you begin blaming the culture. Remember when Colmbine happened they tried to blame Marilyn Manson because they were fans? Before then rap music was being targeted. We dont do a good job in this country identifying and helping people with serious mental issues. I've been watching violent movies and playing violent games my entire life and I am one of the most anti-violence people i've ever met in real life. This is more about people with undiagnosed serious mental problems than it is about rap music, marilyn manson, grand theft auto or the dark knight.
Everybody dies but not everybody truly lives.
