Oh please don't let them wait till August 6 to settle this.

Yao Ming did fine in the NBA with a short wingspan. I'm not sold on this kid though.

Donatas Motiejunas

Post#164 » by LinuxUser » Sun Jul 15, 2012 2:30 am

As a Raptors fan I was pretty impressed by the way he played today. I think you guys got a really good playing. I'm really interesting how he's going to do this season. Does anyone know if he's going to be playing this season for the Rockets?

Am concerned that Motie falls down on the floor so much whether trying to take a charge or grab a rebound. He is always falling down. Just worried he might get hurt. Needs stronger legs.

You've been quiet considering the subtle criticisms you made about D-mo in the past. It's just SL but still.... throw him a compliment somewhere instead of being concerned that he falls down a lot.

I'm concerned that his haircut might not land him a proper allotment of scantily-clad buxomites during his offseason retreats to Ibiza.

It happened a lot to Yao too in his early seasons and we know how that ended up.
I think Dmo had a great summer league. He should probably be the starter at PF right now.

Good question. I was actually looking at their games trying to make the comparison.

As a rookie season, D-Mo will have the edge due to a better overall NBA ready skill set. The reason Jonas might look better could be due to less competition for minutes on his team, vs the talent at PF Donatas will have to beat out. Jonas will have more foul trouble at center and D-Mo could potentially be a match-up nightmare playing the pick and roll with Lin at the 4 spot.

I think they'll have comparable careers, with opposing strengths (Jonas defensively and D-Mo offensively).

For example Jonas might edge out D-Mo as a rebounder and be a better shot-blocker with raw or decent offensive ability. Donuts will be a more polished and skilled offensive player with decent to solid defensive skills.

On their draftexpress profiles, Jonas' potential upside ceiling is compared to a "Andris Biedrins Meets Joakim Noah" type and Donuts as "Pau Gasol' and I think that's about right.

If Donuts gets stronger and tougher on defense he could potentially be a much more complete player long term. The same could be said if Jonas develops a reliable post game and outside shot (but keep in mind that's a lot of "ifs")

All that being said, Jonas is a better athlete with more raw potential. We'll see who fulfills their gifts.
