Never would I thought I would've seen the day where I'm grateful that Chris Broussard is setting the record straight on something. Because the misunderstanding and botching of quotes by this board and the GB alike almost made me off myself.

You are thinking very very short term. Dwight is a force with mediocre players. I dont think you want to see the Lakers when Bynum is the center of the team when Kobe and Nash dip out.
well I take things a season at a time so yea

It's a bit ironic that the new CBA has made the use of extensions basically irrelevant. Now everyone has an incentive to play out their contract and become UFAs so they can get that extra money through a teams' bird rights.

Re: Howard Thread III (Howard ready to join Lakers p.68)
Nothing but that Dwight signing an extension and Dwight committing long term are two different things, and quotes have been misinterpreted. Dwight's commitment to LA is not for a contract extension but the promise that he will re-sign after the 2012-13 season when his current contract expires. It's strictly for financial reasons.

Which would be quite nice if the media talked about resigning instead of extensions but somehow they have managed to interpret to the whole world that they are the same things. lol

They still are even after Broussard phoned in on Sportscenter and clarified the situation, but Howard potentially flip-flopping again is a bigger story than Howard standing pat on what's already been said, so they're going to run with it.
Some person on the Nets board somehow totally misinterpreted "Howard isn't going to sign an extension with any team, including Brooklyn" into saying "Howard isn't going to sign long term with any team other than Brooklyn." I've always found it rather fascinating how the human mind works.

Re: Howard Thread III (Howard ready to join Lakers p.68)
so say dwight does get traded before the season to either houston or LAL, then plays out the season into free agency. Is it still possible for dwight's agent to force the team that he is traded to to sign and trade him to the nets?

He can't force anybody to do anything...
But, if the Nets had pieces that Howards team was interested in, it might make sense for them to S&T him to the Nets rather than just letting him walk for nothing...

Yes he could demand it, but it's up to the team he's on to make that decision. Houston would probably grant his wish and take on Brook Lopez, we on the other hand would more than likely dare him to walk to Dallas or some place else and leave $25 million in the air.

Aren't S&Ts limited by the new CBA starting next year or is that not true?

Totally forgot about that. Starting the 2013-14 season, teams that are over the cap will be prohibited from initiating S&Ts. Brooklyn would be one of those teams over the cap.

Since it's Friday, i'm sure Pincus will dish out tonight his new imminent trade involving Dwight to the Lakers.

If Houston was looking for the best player in a trade I could see them trading Dwight to the Lakers for Bynum at the deadline if Dwight threatens to not resign with the Rockets once he hits free agency. I just do not see Dwight resigning with Houston which makes me question why Houston is willing to put themselves through this mess with Dwight.

Re: Howard Thread III (Howard ready to join Lakers p.68)
Who knows what's going on behind the scenes.
One thing I've learned is don't get too up or down with every little "report" or "twitter".
I think the Lakers have as good a chance of getting him as anyone. My gut feeling is Dwight would love to play for the Lakers and will sign an extension.
If he does not find it exciting to play with one of the best point guards and one of the best closers in the history of the league, in an organization with a winning culture, in a city that will adore him, then he is not very smart.
I also know I trust Mitch, and know he will very aggressively pursue this, quietly, and behind the scenes, in a way that gives us the best chance to land Dwight.

Dude Dwight is NOT going to sign an extension. He will most likely RESIGN as after becoming a free agent. This is what all the hoopla is about. He isnt going to extend with LA for 3yrs 60 mil when he can play out the year and resign for 5 yr 108 mil. Please stop mixing this up.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Dwight Howard's agent saying that D12 wouldn't sign an extension with anybody, including Brooklyn... I believe he said that to cover up for his client, because under the current rules of the CBA you can't promise to sign an extension.

I think the agent could have worded it a little more carefully. He could have said that regardless of where Dwight Howard plays next season, he is not going to sign an extension anywhere. Instead he took it to the next level and said he intends to pursue free agency.
None of this public stuff matters, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. But the way it's been played out publicly has been a PR trainwreck, and stuff like this doesn't help.
