Jersey ads

Post#1 » by KembaWalker » Fri Jul 20, 2012 3:11 pm

what kind of sponors do you guys think the Bobcats will get for our jerseys? I guess we can't use Jordan Brand, which would probably actually make the jerseys look better

Bank of America? Bojangles?

I would totally buy a Jordan Brand Cats jersey... however I'm sure whoever makes the jerseys (Adidas?) will have a problem with putting on that little symbol on their product.

Can we just do a deal like we did with TWC to get out of our TV deal with them? We named the arena after them to let us go to Fox Sports South. Can we just put Tyrus' face on there in order to get out of his deal?
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Curious how everyone feels about this. Maybe a poll is appropo here?

It's a little different than soccer (which will be used as a benchmark) because soccer generally runs uninterrupted by ads. As we all know, the NBA is thick with commercial breaks.

I hate ads. Probably the biggest reason I got into soccer was no commercial breaks.

Personally, I don't think I mind too much. It's a 2X2 box. I'm not really old fashioned about jerseys and what not, so it's that big a deal. I can see why it would be a big deal for people that collect jerseys and are old fashioned. It's just meh to me. It's inevitable because of the money involved. Some NFL teams already do it for their practice jerseys.

i would be OK with the soccer model of ads on jerseys, as long as revenue was split evenly among 30 teams. i wouldnt want to give the lakers or heat any more advantages than they already have.

Teams like the Lakers, Knicks, and Heat will get the Apple, Exxon, and Wal-Mart sponsorships and a team like the Bobcats will get someone like Family Dollar

I absolutely hate this idea. The reason why football jerseys have sponsors on them is because football is a game that doesn't have much stoppage. The only time you see commercials is during the 15 minute halftime and usually half of it is spent in some kind of half-time report studio. Now, NBA basketball is a 48 minute game that lasts for almost 3 hours. Aren't the commercials enough? This is a disgrace to the game. Imagine the legendary photo of MJ dunking from the free throw line with a large McDonalds logo on the Bulls jersey... Come on, man...

"The view is, that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for Adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail," said Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver.

Don't like it being on retail... I'm not getting a cut of the ad revenue

With their homophobia thing I doubt they get on NBA jerseys. Grant Hill would be so ashamed.

I wonder how large the logos would be. If they were about 1.5 inches square, it would be too obtrusive I think.

If I ever buy a new jersey again, I'm taking that ad off myself and I hope others follow suit.
