Kanter declines turkish national team

Post#1 » by el_turco_1987 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 12:20 pm

Enes wont join the national team this summer although promising to participate after the summerleague. In my opinion its a terrible decision because of his lack of game-experience and he likely would be starting for the national team.

According an article, he promised national team executives to join the team after the summer league. However, no one could reach him for several days. Finally his agent who thought enes is on his way to the national team called the turkish team manager to inform him that Enes will not join. The thing about that is there is no reason he told! It is also mentioned that Jazz management is not against his participation in the national team.

What is Turkey playing for in an Olympic year they didn't qualify for? Will playing games against Lebanon and Germany really help?

Qualification - Round for the eurobasket 2013. Opponents are: Italy, Belarus, Czech Republic and Portugal.

You're right except Italy there arent significant opponents but this is not the point. The point is that Kanter have got more game-experience because he has still a lack of game experience and would be more ready for the nba-season. He would play at least 25 minutes per game and in my opinion he needs this minutes..

If he's going to be using the time to work on his game with trainers, I'd rather him see do that than play against inferior competetion......

I don't mind it at all. The Turkish team plays horrible stupid guard-dominant basketball. There are good players there, but all they do is let their guards do whatever they want and shoot bad 3's all game long. They don't involve their bigs, who live off offensive rebounds and the very rare pass. Also, Kanter is not high on their rotation (even though in the Euro championship he played himself up to be the 1st big off the bench).

I would much rather he would stay away from the hectic and awful basketball the Turkish coach makes that team play and lock himself in a gym, working on his post moves and apply the knowledge he got from attending P3 as to how to better use his body when it comes to leaping and jumping and generally improve is technique (and by skipping the tournament, he may stay away from injuries that would further stall his development). And it also wouldn't hurt if he would study the Jazz playbook, since he did look lost out there quite a bit, unsure of the plays the Jazz ran and had to be directed by other players mid-play.

Well there are some true points that u have mentioned but you had to read my posts before. As i said Kanter would be the first Big-Man in the Rotation! Asik and Ilyasova are resting this time and Enes would be a starter or even the Big-Man number one. You know the point with the guards and their problem to involve the big-man is when your big-man is a defensiv-minded player like asik you dont involve him very much. Look better for example Ilyasova gets lots of passes like Enes would if he would have participated..

I'm basing what I wrote on watching the last Eurobasket, but maybe some things changed. I was so frustrated watching that team because they have so many good players, and even though Kanter showed even then that he was the team's best inside scoring option, he wasn't involved enough. A starting role would have been nice, but I guess now we'll never know, but I would still rather him avoiding an injury by skipping the tournament and working on his game. Ilyasova definitely got and gets a lot of passes, but he is more of a 3-4 who or a stretch 4 who shoots well from outside and from 3, which works just fine with the way the coach likes them to play.

I think Kanter's main problem in the league is that he struggles against the athleticism that is common in the NBA. He won't have that challenge in the Euro setting, so he wouldn't gain all that much from playing against that type of competition. I still remember what he did against Germany when he scored so well against both Kaman and Dirk that the German team had to double-team him. So if he did that after not playing a whole season in Kentucky, I'm sure he would have been just fine this time around with the extra minutes you say he would get (I trust your opinion on this), but I don't think it would benefit him as much as working with specialists on his game all summer.

Well i hope so :D But i think he struggles not only against the athletism also he has to be quicker mentally..But with more game experience that shouldnt be a long-term problem.

Game experience is nice and all but its overrated expecially if its international. All that matter is that he's working on skills and approach to the game through practicing. Its the same reason I ingore everyone that mentions he never played a college game. Its irrelanvant because he was able to practice with the team and thats all that matters.

The way I read it he didn't decline to play for the National Team. He wanted to come after the Bormio camp and the team management got fed up with this waiting game and replaced him with somebody else. Well if this is bad or good it all depends what Kanter really wants. The outcome of this is that he will be hated in Turkey (skipping the National Team is a big no no) and he probably won't play for his country again. If he is ok with that then who are we to judge. If not he should fix this really quick, because god he is getting absolutely killed on twitter. New Yorks fall out over Jeremy Lin pales in comparison.

Not exactly. The deal was that Kanter should come to the national team after this camp. But they couldn't reached him for days because they wanted to check his status. After all this crap his agent declined - by order of Kanter - his national-team arrangement this summer..

Who gives a doodle? Gabba gabba hey.

Sorry to any Turkish fans but I don't care if he plays for your national team nor do I care to speculate why or for what reason.

Guess what? This isn't the lockout summer. The Jazz brass can have contact and keep close tabs on and guide whatever he does with his time. I'm sure he's training somewhere, not just sitting on a beach chair getting fat.

How come he couldn't be reached? That is really strange. Also, how does his agent fit in? Couldn't the agent be reached? Or was Kenter's agent contacted but he couldn't contact Kanter? Either way you slice it, it's weird.

Kanter has had trouble with the Turkish team for a while. IDK what the underlying deal is but they don't see eye to eye. I trust Enes and his advisers to make the right decision for him.

Is this team the same team that screwed him over with the whole Kentucky situation? Lied to him about getting paid and NCAA rules? If so, why would he play for them? Cost him a lot.

That's a different team. Kanter declined the Turkish national team, which represents the country just like team USA does.

The team that you are referring to in regards to the issues you described is Fenerbahçe Ülker. And although I don't know all the details, I don't think they lied to him. In the USA, players who were recognized as pros can't play college ball. Kanter played for Fenerbahçe Ülker which is a professional team, including a few spot minutes in the Euroleage (and got paid allegedly), so strictly from a legal standpoint, the rules applied and he couldn't play for Kentucky. About Kanter's payment thing, here is a link that explains it:
